Privacy Policy

TLDR

We collect very little. You can read every page of this site without giving us any personal information. We do not sell personal data, we do not run accounts or take payments, and when you buy a mattress you buy it from the retailer, under their terms, not from us. If you join our newsletter or contact us, we hold what you give us, use it for that purpose, and nothing else.

What we collect

Information you give us. If you sign up to our newsletter, your email address. If you contact us, your email address and whatever you include in your message. If you report a price error, the details you submit and, if you provide it, a way to reply to you.

Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, our infrastructure processes technical data when you visit: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and how you arrived. Some of this involves cookies and similar technologies, which are covered in our Cookie Policy, including how to control them.

Affiliate click data. When you click a link to a retailer, the affiliate network handling that retailer records the click, typically using a click reference and a cookie, so the retailer knows the sale came from us. This is how we are paid, as explained on How We Make Money. We see aggregate reporting (clicks and commissions), not your identity or what you browsed on the retailer's site.

We do not knowingly collect data from children, and the site is not directed at them. We never collect payment details, because you cannot buy anything from us directly.

How we use it, and the legal bases

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) we need a lawful basis for each use:

With your consent: sending the newsletter you signed up for, and measuring how the site is used with Google Analytics, which runs only if you accept analytics cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time: every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and cookie choices can be changed as described in the Cookie Policy.

Our legitimate interests: keeping the site secure and working, responding when you contact us, investigating price error reports, improving our content and service using what we learn, and running and protecting our business. Where we rely on legitimate interests we balance them against your rights, and you can object at any time.

Legal obligations: keeping records we are required to keep, and responding to lawful requests.

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with the service providers who run the site for us, acting on our instructions:

Our website platform (Webflow), our infrastructure and security provider (Cloudflare), our database provider (Supabase), our analytics provider (Google, for Google Analytics), and, once the newsletter launches, the email service provider that sends it. Affiliate networks (such as AWIN and TradeDoubler) process click data as described above under their own policies.

We do not sell personal data. We do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We would disclose data if the law required it.

International transfers

Some of our providers store or process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are protected by legal safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the ICO-approved International Data Transfer Agreement and addendum.

How long we keep it

Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe, then removed from the active list. Correspondence is kept as long as needed to deal with your query and for a reasonable period afterwards. Technical logs are kept for short periods for security and troubleshooting. We keep personal data no longer than we need it for the purpose we collected it.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to our processing of it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you have given. None of these cost you anything.

To exercise any of them, email richard@mattressunboxed.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Cookies

Essential cookies keep the site working; anything non-essential, such as analytics, only runs with your consent. The full list, and how to change your choices, is in the Cookie Policy.

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged clearly on the site.

Using this website: terms and disclaimers

This final section covers the terms that apply when you use Mattress Unboxed. Using the site means you accept them.

Prices, availability and accuracy

We check prices across UK retailers regularly, and every price table shows when its prices were last checked. But mattress prices change constantly, and we cannot guarantee that every price, discount or stock position is accurate at the moment you read it. Always confirm the price on the retailer's site before you buy. The price at the retailer's checkout is the price, and if it differs from ours, theirs governs.

When you buy a mattress, your contract is with the retailer. Delivery, returns, trials, warranties and refunds are between you and them, under their terms. We are not a party to that purchase, though if a retailer we feature consistently lets buyers down, we want to know: Contact us.

Our content is information, not advice

Everything on Mattress Unboxed is general information to help you research and compare. Our sleep and health content reports what recognised sources say, as set out in our Editorial Policy; it is not medical advice, and it is no substitute for speaking to a qualified professional about your own circumstances. Purchase decisions are yours, and we encourage you to use our data as one input among several.

Our content and your use of it

The content on this site, including our reviews, comparisons, guides, scores and the data presentations we have built, belongs to RPSG Limited or its licensors. You are welcome to read, share links to, and quote brief excerpts of our content with attribution. You may not republish substantial parts of it, scrape or bulk-extract our data, or use our content to build a competing dataset or service, without our written permission.

Third-party trademarks, brand names and product images remain the property of their owners and are used to identify the products discussed.

Links to other sites

We link out to retailers, manufacturers and sources. Those sites have their own content, terms and privacy practices, which we do not control and are not responsible for.

Liability

We run this site with care, but it is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content, including purchase decisions made using our information, errors or omissions in prices or specifications, or the acts of any retailer you buy from. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under the law of England and Wales, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

General

These terms and this policy are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still stands. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised version.
