High resilience foam
A durable base foam that gives the mattress its structure. Its springy, resilient quality means the mattress recovers its shape quickly rather than developing lasting dips.
Pocket springs
Individually wrapped steel springs that respond to each part of your body separately. This means less motion transfer, so you're less likely to feel a partner turning over.
Comfort zones
Zoned areas that soften the support where your body presses hardest, typically at the shoulders and hips. This helps keep your spine in a more natural line on a firm surface.
Memory foam
A top layer of memory foam that moulds slowly to your shape and eases pressure points. It takes a little of the edge off the firm feel underneath.

- Room for two in a normal bedroom: At 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, the UK double fits comfortably in rooms where a UK king would leave little walking space.
- Less partner disturbance: The individually wrapped pocket springs respond to each of you separately, which means a partner turning over is far less likely to wake you.
- 67.5cm each when sharing: Two people get 67.5cm of width apiece, enough for most couples, particularly back and front sleepers who move less through the night.
- Firm support across the shared surface: The firm feel with zoned softening at shoulders and hips keeps both sleepers level, so neither of you rolls towards the middle.
- Easy to dress and furnish around: Double sheets and 200 x 200cm duvets are sold everywhere, and the footprint usually leaves space for bedside tables on both sides.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the traditional couples' size that still leaves room to move around your bedroom, you're a solo sleeper who likes space to stretch out, or perhaps to share with a pet that has claimed a corner, or you're kitting out a guest room that needs to handle visiting couples. Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of floor space.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like plenty of personal space, or one of you is a restless sleeper. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, giving 75cm each, and we'd recommend it if your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is the Ikea Anneland double big enough for two adults?
For most couples, yes. You each get 67.5cm of width, and the Anneland's pocket springs limit how much movement travels between you, which matters more in a double than a larger size. Broad-shouldered sleepers or couples who like to spread out may prefer the UK king, which gives 75cm each.
What room size do I need for the Anneland in a UK double?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows you to walk around the bed and, in most rooms, fit bedside tables on both sides. If you're measuring a first flat or a smaller second bedroom, check there's still room for a wardrobe and drawers too.
Should I get the Anneland in a double or a king?
The UK double suits typical UK bedrooms and couples happy with 67.5cm each. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, and gives 75cm each, but needs a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m. If you're taller than about 6ft, the UK king's extra length is the stronger argument.
Will the Anneland double get up narrow stairs?
At 135cm wide and 24cm deep, it's a manageable size for most homes, though the pocket spring core means it can't be squashed round corners the way an all-foam mattress can. If you live in an older terrace with a turning staircase or a tight new build landing, measure the awkward point first.
What bedding fits the Anneland double?
Standard UK double sheets, sized for 135 x 190cm, with a 200 x 200cm double duvet. The mattress is 24cm deep, which sits within the range most fitted double sheets accommodate, so you shouldn't need deep-pocket versions. Double bedding is the most widely stocked size in the UK, at every price.
