- Real space for one: At 120cm wide, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, so a solo adult can stretch out or change position freely.
- Fits rooms a double crowds: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, which can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't.
- Hybrid comfort in a small footprint: You get springs with foam layers on top, which means proper support without needing king-size floor space to get it.
- Standard 4ft sizing: The small double is a standard UK size, so frames and fitted sheets are easy to find, and a standard double duvet works fine.
- Sensible for guest rooms: A couple can share 120cm for the occasional stay, making this size a practical choice for a spare room nobody sleeps in nightly.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a single but your room can't spare the width a double takes, you're furnishing a box room, loft conversion or studio where every centimetre beside the bed counts, or you need a guest room bed that handles the occasional visiting couple without dominating the space.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, because 120cm is a squeeze for two adults long term. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of floor space for it.

Is a small double Arthur Sleep Cool Gel big enough for a couple?
For the odd night, yes. At 120 x 190cm two adults can share it, which is why this size works well in guest rooms. For nightly sharing it's tight, and most couples would be happier on the UK double, which is 15cm wider and the same length.
What room size do I need for the small double Arthur Sleep Cool Gel?
We suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That's our own guidance, not the manufacturer's, and it allows enough clearance to walk round the bed and open drawers. In a loft conversion or box room, measure where the ceiling gives you standing height before assuming the bed fits.
Should a teenager move up to the small double rather than a double?
Often, yes. The UK small double gives them 30cm more width than the UK single at the same length, which is a noticeable upgrade for a growing teenager, while taking 15cm less floor space than a UK double. In a bedroom that also holds a desk, that saved width matters.
What bedding fits this size, and is it easy to buy?
Small double is a standard UK size at 4ft wide, so 4ft fitted sheets are stocked by most bedding retailers, and a standard double duvet drapes nicely over it. You won't be hunting for specialist linen the way you might with an EU size.
Where can I buy the Arthur Sleep Cool Gel in a small double?
Availability changes, so the simplest answer is to compare the retailers listed on this page; the prices shown here are updated as retailers change them. This mattress has limited retailer coverage, so if the small double shows in stock and the price suits you, there's little reason to wait.
