- The classic shared size: At 135 x 190cm you get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which is workable for most couples without dominating the bedroom.
- Springs that ignore your partner: Pocket springs move independently, which means a partner turning over at 3am is far less likely to wake you in a shared double.
- Fits typical UK bedrooms: Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m and you should still have room for a wardrobe and drawers, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm.
- Room for bedside tables: In most double bedrooms this 4ft 6in width leaves enough wall on each side for tables both sides, which a wider bed often rules out.
- Easy to dress: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet fit this size, and both are stocked everywhere at every price point.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the traditional couples' size that leaves your room usable, you're furnishing a guest room that visiting couples will actually sleep well in, or you sleep alone but like space to sprawl, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also suits older terraces and tight new build landings, where a 135cm-wide mattress turns the stairs more easily than a king.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both want more personal space, since 67.5cm each is snug for restless sleepers. The UK king of this mattress is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, and we'd recommend it if your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is the Copper Arthur UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. At 135 x 190cm you get 67.5cm of width each, and the pocket spring core keeps a partner's movement from travelling across the bed. Taller sleepers should note the 190cm length: the UK king adds 10cm. If either of you sleeps restlessly, sizing up to the UK king buys noticeable extra room.
What room size do I need for the Copper Arthur in a UK double?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows walking space on both sides plus a wardrobe or chest of drawers, which matters in a second bedroom or first flat where the bed shares the room with everything else you own.
Should I get the Copper Arthur in a double or a king?
Choose the UK double if your room is on the smaller side or you want bedside tables both sides without the bed swallowing the floor. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, and needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m. Couples who value personal space usually prefer it, if the room genuinely allows.
What bedding fits the Copper Arthur double mattress?
Standard UK double bedding: double fitted sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet. Because the UK double is the most common size in Britain, you'll find sheets and duvet covers everywhere, at every price, which helps if you're furnishing a whole home at once and the budget is spread thin.
Will a UK double mattress fit up narrow stairs?
A 135 x 190cm pocket spring mattress is a rigid item, so measure your route first: turning stairs in older terraces and tight new build landings are the usual pinch points. The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, which often makes the difference. Arthur Sleep doesn't publish the depth, so check with the retailer before delivery day.
