Layer Details
- Comfort Layer. A combination of gel foam and comfort foam sits at the surface, which means gentle pressure relief with the gel working to draw heat away from you. It gives the mattress its medium feel.
- Support System. Beneath the foam sit 800 pocket springs, each moving independently, which means the mattress responds to your shape rather than the whole surface dipping. This also helps limit disturbance from a restless partner.
Layer details from arthursleep.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Fits compact rooms: At 90cm wide it slots into box rooms and loft conversions where the sloping ceiling or a desk rules out anything bigger.
- A sensible children's mattress: The medium feel suits growing bodies, and the hypoallergenic synthetic fillings are a quiet reassurance for allergy-prone kids.
- Cooler for teens who run hot: The gel foam layer works to draw heat away, which matters in small rooms that warm up quickly overnight.
- Guest-room friendly: The medium feel is a safe middle ground for visitors whose preferences you can't predict, and a single leaves space for a desk or storage.
- Springs that stay quiet: The 800 pocket springs move independently, so a fidgety child or restless guest won't set the whole surface bouncing.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager moving up from a cot or shorter bed, you're kitting out a spare room that doubles as an office, or you sleep alone in a room where every centimetre of floor space counts. At 90 x 190cm it works in almost any UK bedroom, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who shares the bed, or a solo sleeper who sprawls and wakes with limbs over the edge. We'd recommend the Gel Arthur in a UK double instead: it's 45cm wider, the same length, and needs a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Gel Arthur UK single a good mattress for a child?
It's a reasonable fit. The medium feel gives a growing child cushioning without letting them sink in, and the fillings are hypoallergenic, which helps if dust allergies are a worry. Lightweight sleepers sit gently on the 800 pocket springs, so support shouldn't be an issue. The 90 x 190cm footprint also leaves floor space free for toys, a desk and a wardrobe.
Will the Gel Arthur single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk and mid-sleeper frames. The one thing to check is depth: at 27cm the Gel Arthur is deeper than many mattresses sold for raised frames, and on a top bunk the guard rail needs to sit well above the mattress surface. Measure your frame's maximum mattress depth before buying.
What room size do I need for a UK single Gel Arthur?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space, which gives you room to walk alongside the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. That's our own guidance rather than the manufacturer's. In practice the UK single is the most forgiving size there is, and it copes with loft conversions and box rooms where nothing wider would fit.
Can two people share the Gel Arthur in a UK single?
Not comfortably. At 90cm wide it's designed for one sleeper, and two adults would spend the night competing for space. If you share every night, the Gel Arthur in a UK double is 45cm wider and the same length; allow a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.
Where can I find the best price on the Gel Arthur single?
Use the price table on this page. The prices shown here are updated as retailers change them, so it reflects what the UK single actually costs today rather than a figure that dates quickly. Smaller sizes are usually the cheapest way into a given mattress, which makes the single a low-risk way to try this hybrid.
