Gel foam comfort layer
A gel foam layer sits at the top and forms the comfort layer. It adds a little cushioning over the firm springs below, and the gel is there to help control temperature.
Pocket spring core
The core is made of pocket springs, each housed in its own fabric pocket. That lets the springs move independently, so you get firm support that responds to your body rather than moving as one sheet.
Layer details from arthursleep.co.uk and mattressman.co.uk product pages, October 2026.
- Room to sleep apart, together: With 75cm each for two people sharing, you can settle into your own position without negotiating over the middle of the bed.
- Springs that keep movement local: Pocket springs respond individually, which means a partner leaving hours before your alarm is less likely to send ripples across to your side.
- Extra length for taller sleepers: At 200cm, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, so feet stay on the mattress rather than hanging off the end.
- Firm support across a wider surface: The firmer feel Arthur Sleep describes suits back and front sleepers, and the extra width means neither of you drifts toward the other overnight.
- A manageable footprint: You get a real space upgrade without the room demands of the UK super king; we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for a UK king.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel cramped, especially if one of you gets up hours before the other and you'd rather not feel every movement. It also makes sense if either partner is approaching six foot, since the 200cm length removes that familiar feet-over-the-edge problem, or if a dog has quietly become a permanent third occupant.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of the 2.7m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK king, or you sleep alone. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m and is only 15cm narrower.

Is a UK king Ortho Arthur good for couples on different schedules?
It's a sensible pairing. The pocket springs move independently, so one person getting up early disturbs the surface less than an open coil would, and at 150cm wide you each have 75cm of space. That combination means an early riser can slip out with less chance of waking their partner.
Will the Ortho Arthur in a UK king suit a tall sleeper?
The length is the real gain here. The UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double at 200cm, which is a genuine relief for anyone approaching six foot who currently sleeps diagonally or with feet off the end. The firm feel also tends to suit taller, heavier back and front sleepers.
What room size do I need for a king size Ortho Arthur?
We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m, with more feeling comfortable once wardrobes and drawers go in. New build master bedrooms can be tighter than they first appear, so measure with your existing furniture in mind before committing. If the room falls short, the UK double needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
Should I get the Ortho Arthur in a UK king or a UK super king?
The UK king is 30cm narrower than the UK super king, and both are the same length. If you regularly share with children or a large dog, that extra width is tempting, but the UK super king needs at least 3m x 2.9m of room. For most couples the UK king is the practical middle ground.
Where can I buy the Ortho Arthur mattress in a UK king?
Stock moves around, so the simplest route is the live comparison table on this page, where the prices shown are updated as retailers change them. Arthur Sleep publishes little construction detail for this mattress, so the retailer listing may not tell you much beyond the firm pocket spring description.
