Layer Details
- Reflex Foam. A soft, flexible reflex foam layer that supports spinal alignment. In practice, this means your back stays in a more neutral position as you sleep.
- High Density Memory Foam. A layer of high density memory foam for added support. It contours gently to your shape, easing pressure at the hips and shoulders.
- Pocket Springs. 1,000 sturdy pocket springs with a unique curvature, each sat in its own individual pocket. The high-tensile springs react independently to movement, which means less disturbance when a partner turns over.
- Foam Encapsulated Border. A reinforced perimeter made from durable, sturdy foam. This firms up the edges, so sitting on the side of the bed or sleeping near it feels stable.

- A depth that works on raised frames: At 20cm this mattress is shallower than many hybrids, which means it's more likely to sit safely below the guard rail on a bunk or cabin bed.
- Fits compact rooms: At 90cm wide, a UK single leaves floor space free for a desk, wardrobe or toy storage, and we suggest a room of at least 2.1m x 2.8m.
- Support that grows with a child: The medium firm tension and pocket springs keep a growing spine in a neutral position, rather than letting a lighter body sink into a soft hollow.
- Edge support in a narrow bed: The foam encapsulated border firms up the perimeter, useful on a 90cm width where a child or guest sleeps closer to the edge by default.
- Guest-ready without fuss: Standard single sheets and duvets fit, and the shallower 20cm depth makes fitted sheets easier to stretch on when you're making up a spare bed quickly.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager moving up from a cot or toddler bed, you need a mattress for a bunk, cabin or mid-sleeper frame where a shallower 20cm profile keeps the guard rail effective, or you're kitting out a spare room or study that doubles as guest space and want supportive springs rather than a budget foam slab.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult sharing the bed, or a restless solo sleeper who wants room to spread out. The UK double gives you 45cm more width at the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of floor space for it.

Is the Bodyshape 1000 Pocket Hybrid UK single suitable for a bunk bed?
It's a good candidate. At 20cm deep it's shallower than many hybrids, so it's more likely to sit below the guard rail on a bunk, cabin or mid-sleeper frame. Check your frame's maximum mattress depth before buying, as this varies by manufacturer, but 20cm clears most standard raised frames comfortably.
Is the Bodyshape 1000 Pocket Hybrid UK single good for a child?
Yes, with one caveat. The medium firm tension and 1,000 pocket springs support a growing spine well, and the reinforced border helps if your child sleeps near the edge. Very lightweight children may find it a little solid at first, though firmer support is generally the safer choice for growing bodies than something plush.
What room size do I need for a UK single mattress?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space. At 90cm wide, the UK single is the easiest size to place, leaving room for a desk, wardrobe or toy storage in a child's bedroom, or two beds with a walkway between them in a shared or guest room.
Will the UK single fit a loft conversion or box room?
It's the size most likely to. The 90 x 190cm footprint tucks under a sloped ceiling or into a narrow alcove where a UK small double, 30cm wider, might not. Measure the usable floor at mattress height rather than at the floor, since sloping walls eat into space as the bed rises.
