Gel Memory foam
A 3cm layer of gel memory foam with a fast bounce-back rate and strong air circulation, which means it sleeps cooler than traditional memory foam. You get the contouring comfort without so much of the heat.
Reflex foam
3cm of reflex foam adds durability, helping the mattress keep its shape for longer. In practice, that means consistent support over time rather than early sagging.
Pocket Springs
Rows of 2000 pocket springs sit in individual fabric pockets that move independently and together, giving a responsive bounce-back feel. Because each spring reacts on its own, your partner's movements are less likely to disturb you.
Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Real space for one: At 120cm wide, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, so a solo adult can starfish rather than sleep to attention.
- Fits where a double will not: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, which can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't.
- Cooler gel foam in a snug room: Compact bedrooms can run warm, and the 3cm gel memory foam layer is designed to circulate air better than traditional memory foam.
- Copes with occasional sharing: The 2000 pocket springs move independently, so when guests do share it for a weekend, one person's turning is less likely to wake the other.
- Medium feel for unknown guests: In a guest room you can't tailor firmness to each visitor, and this medium feel sits in the range most sleepers find comfortable.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a single, perhaps a teenager whose room can't spare more floor space, or you're furnishing a box room, studio or guest bedroom where a standard double would crowd the walls. It also suits a loft conversion or a smaller home after downsizing, where the bed has to fit the room you have now.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, since 120cm gives a couple noticeably little personal space. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider and the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of room for it.

What room size do I need for the Bodyshape Gel 2000 small double?
We suggest a bedroom of at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough clearance to open the door, walk round the bed and change the sheets without shuffling sideways. This is our own guidance rather than Bodyshape's, so if your room is right on the line, measure with wardrobes and radiators in mind.
Is the small double Bodyshape Gel 2000 big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes. The 2000 pocket springs limit motion transfer, which helps two people share without disturbing each other. As an everyday couple's bed, though, 120cm is tight, and most couples sleep better on the UK double or UK king versions of this mattress.
How big is the Bodyshape Gel 2000 in a small double, in feet?
It measures 4ft x 6ft 3in, or 120 x 190cm. That makes it the same length as the UK single and the UK double, so it fits the same depth of room; the width is where it sits between the two.
Is the small double worth it over the single for one adult?
Usually, if the room allows. The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single at the same length, which turns a bed you fit into a bed you can spread out on. The trade-off is floor space, so check our suggested 2.4m x 2.8m minimum against your room first.
Will small double bedding fit this mattress?
Yes. It's a standard UK 4ft size, so small double (4ft) fitted sheets fit properly, and a standard double duvet works well on top. Because 4ft is a common UK size, frames and bases are also easy to find, which matters if you're kitting out a guest room or rental from scratch.
