Key benefits
- Shared space that works for still sleepers: Each of you gets 67.5cm of width, which suits couples who stay on their own side, although a restless partner may feel a little close.
- Leaves room for the rest of the bedroom: We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m feeling comfortable, which leaves space for a wardrobe or chest of drawers beside the bed.
- A better chance of two bedside tables: The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, and in a modest room that can decide whether you fit a bedside table on each side or only one.
- Easier to get up awkward stairs: It arrives rolled and compactly packaged, which helps on the tight turning stairs of an older terrace or a cramped new build landing.
- Zoned foam for shared nights: Dreams shapes the foam into five zones for the head, shoulders, hips, knees and legs, which means your body is cushioned differently along its length rather than meeting one flat feel.
- Bedding is easy to find: Double sheets and duvets sell at every price point, which helps if you're furnishing a whole home at once and the budget is already stretched.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed with a partner every night and your bedroom is around 2.6m x 2.8m or a little larger, or you're setting up a guest room for visiting couples and want a mattress that arrives rolled for an easier trip up the stairs.
Consider another size if...
One of you sprawls, or you both want more than 67.5cm each. We'd recommend the UK king instead, which gives 75cm each and needs a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

FAQ's
Is the Dreams Comfort Memory Foam 5 Zoned UK double big enough for two people?
For most couples, yes. A UK double gives you 67.5cm each, which works well if you both sleep fairly still. If one of you turns a lot or sleeps star-shaped, the UK king gives 7.5cm more each and is 10cm longer, which you'll notice through the night.
What size bedroom do I need for a UK double Dreams Comfort Memory Foam mattress?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double, with around 3m x 3m giving you comfortable room to walk round the bed and open drawers. If your room falls short of that, a UK king will feel even tighter, as we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for that size.
Will a rolled double mattress get up narrow stairs?
Rolled delivery is the main advantage on awkward stairs. The mattress comes compactly packaged, so you won't need to bend a full 135cm wide mattress round a tight landing. Measure the narrowest turn on your stairs before ordering, then compare the retailers listed on this page.
Dreams Comfort Memory Foam 5 Zoned: UK double or UK king for a couple?
The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, giving 67.5cm each against 75cm. Choose the UK double if your room is closer to 2.6m x 2.8m and you want bedside tables on both sides. Choose the UK king if your room meets our suggested 2.7m x 2.9m and you want extra space.
Is a UK double too big for one person?
Not usually. The UK double is 45cm wider than the UK single, which suits a solo sleeper who likes to spread out or shares the bed with a dog or cat. If your room is small, the UK single needs at least 2.1m x 2.8m against 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
