- The classic couples' footprint: At 135 x 190cm the UK double is the long established size for two people sharing, which means it fits comfortably in a typical UK bedroom.
- Room for bedside tables: Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m and most rooms will still take a table on each side, so neither of you gives up a lamp or a phone charger.
- Gentle feel for two side sleepers: The medium soft surface cushions shoulders and hips, which many couples who both sleep on their side will appreciate at this width.
- Bedding is easy and cheap to find: Double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are stocked everywhere, so dressing this mattress costs less effort than the less common sizes.
- A deep build without the sprawl: You get the full 29cm depth of this mattress in a size that suits smaller master bedrooms, second bedrooms and first flats.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed with a partner and your room sits comfortably above our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum, or you sleep alone and want space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also makes sense if you're furnishing a guest room for visiting couples, since the UK double is the size most guests expect.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like plenty of personal space, since 67.5cm each for two people sharing can feel snug. If your room allows it, we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider and 10cm longer.

Is the Emma Diamond Spring Free Deluxe UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. The UK double is the traditional shared size, and its medium soft surface suits two side sleepers. That said, it gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, so if either of you moves around a lot at night, the UK king offers noticeably more elbow room.
What room size do I need for the Emma Diamond Spring Free Deluxe in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves walking space around the bed and, in most rooms, enough width for bedside tables on both sides. In anything smaller, you may find drawers and wardrobe doors start to clash with the bed.
Should I choose this mattress in a UK double or a UK king?
It comes down to your room. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, which is the difference between a bed that fits the room and one that dominates it. Couples with a generous master bedroom will enjoy the extra space of the UK king; in a typical UK bedroom, the UK double is the safer call.
Will a UK double fit up the stairs in an older house?
At 135 x 190cm and 29cm deep this is a substantial mattress, so it's slightly bulkier on a turning staircase or a tight new build landing than a UK single would be. Emma doesn't publish handling guidance for this size, so measure your tightest turn before ordering and check with the retailer if you're unsure.
What bedding fits the Emma Diamond Spring Free Deluxe double?
Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet. One caveat: at 29cm deep, this mattress needs deep-fitted sheets rather than standard ones, so check the depth on the packet before you buy. Beyond that, double bedding is the most widely stocked size in the UK, at every price point.
