Advanced Cortec Quad pocket springs
This is the main pocket spring system, described as award-winning. It gives the mattress its firm, supportive base, so you lie on top of the surface rather than sinking into it.
Micro spring layer
A layer of 2,500 high-density micro springs sits above the main system. It adds a finer level of cushioning, which helps ease pressure and takes some of the edge off the firm tension.
Layer details from furniturevillage.co.uk product page, October 2026.
- Real distance from a restless partner: With 90cm each for two people sharing, most movement happens too far away to disturb you in the first place.
- Springs that keep movement local: Pocket springs compress independently, which means what motion does travel across 180cm of width fades before it reaches your side.
- Space for night-time visitors: When a child or the dog appears at 3am, a 6ft x 6ft 6in surface absorbs them without pushing either adult to the edge.
- A firm surface across the full width: The firm tension holds you on top of the mattress rather than in it, so even the middle of this wide bed stays usable rather than becoming a dip.
- Sized for larger rooms: In a big master bedroom where a UK king can look a little lost, the extra 30cm of width fills the space properly.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want enough width that a restless partner, a wandering child or a large dog no longer costs you sleep, your bedroom comfortably clears our suggested 3m x 2.9m minimum, and you both prefer a firm, traditional pocket sprung feel over anything with sink.
Consider another size if...
Your room is under 3m x 2.9m, or the extra width would leave you squeezing past the bed every morning. We'd recommend the UK king instead: it's 30cm narrower, the same length, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

Is the Pure Response Firm in a UK super king a good choice for couples?
Yes, if you both like a firm feel. The 180cm width gives 90cm each for two people sharing, and the pocket springs move independently, so a partner turning over is doubly muffled: by distance and by the springs themselves. Lightweight side sleepers may still find the firm tension creates pressure at the shoulder, whatever the size.
What room size do I need for a super king Pure Response Firm?
We suggest at least 3m x 2.9m, and that is a genuine minimum rather than a comfortable one. Around 3.5m x 3.2m feels right, leaving space to walk both sides and open wardrobe doors. Measure door swing and any landing turns too, as a 180 x 200cm mattress is awkward on tight stairs.
Is a super king too big if children climb in at night?
The opposite, really. This is the size we'd point parents towards: a 6ft-wide surface means a visiting child takes a share rather than the middle, and the firm pocket sprung surface stays supportive for the adults at the edges instead of everyone rolling towards a soft centre.
How much bigger is the super king than the UK king?
The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king, and the two are the same length at 200cm. That extra width is the difference between 90cm each and a squeeze, though it does mean super king bedding, which costs more, and a room of at least 3m x 2.9m rather than 2.7m x 2.9m.
Does the firm tension matter more at super king size?
Slightly, yes. On a bed this wide you tend to spread out, so you feel the surface across more of your body, and there is no escaping the tension by shuffling to a softer spot. If you sleep on your back or front and want to lie on the bed rather than in it, that consistency is exactly the point.
