- The classic couples' footprint: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double is the long-standing standard for two sharing, which means it fits the rooms most UK homes actually have.
- Room for bedside tables: Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m and most bedrooms will still take a table on each side, so nobody loses their lamp and phone charger.
- 67.5cm each for sharers: Two people get 67.5cm of width apiece, enough for most couples, though restless sleepers or broad shoulders may prefer the UK king.
- Easy to dress: Double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are stocked everywhere at every price, handy if you're kitting out a first flat from scratch.
- Sensible for a guest room: A UK double comfortably hosts visiting couples yet leaves space for a wardrobe and drawers, which a UK king in a spare room rarely does.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room sits around the typical UK bedroom size, where a UK king would crowd the walkways. It also suits you if you're furnishing a guest room that needs to take visiting couples, or you sleep alone and want space to stretch out without giving the bed the whole room.
Consider another size if...
Your room is under our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum, or you and your partner keep bumping elbows. For tight rooms we'd recommend the UK small double of this mattress instead; for more sharing space, size up to the UK king.

Is the Highgrove Canterbury Crib 5 double big enough for two adults?
For most couples, yes. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which is the traditional standard in British homes. If one of you is tall, broad or a restless sleeper, the UK king adds 15cm of width and 10cm of length, provided your room can take it.
What room size do I need for this mattress in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves walking room on both sides and, in most rooms, space for bedside tables. These are our own guidelines rather than Highgrove's, so measure your room before ordering.
How does the UK double compare with the UK king for this mattress?
The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king. In practice that means noticeably less elbow room for two, but a smaller footprint that suits typical UK bedrooms. If your room comfortably exceeds 3m x 3m and you share nightly, the UK king is the roomier choice.
What bedding fits the Highgrove Canterbury Crib 5 in a double?
Standard UK double bedding: double fitted sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet. Because the double is the most common size in Britain, you'll find bedding for it everywhere and at every price, which keeps the cost of dressing the bed down compared with larger sizes.
Where can I buy the UK double size of this mattress?
Use the price table on this page, which is updated as retailers change their listings. Stock varies by size, so a shop carrying the UK king may not hold the UK double. Since we can't verify this model's construction or firmness, read the retailer's own description carefully before buying.
