- The classic shared footprint: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double is the long standing British couples' size, which means it fits rooms where a UK king would crowd the walls.
- 67.5cm each for two sharing: Two people get 67.5cm of width apiece, enough for most couples who sleep reasonably close, though restless sleepers may want more.
- Works in a typical first flat: Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m, our suggested minimum, and you should still have room for a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.
- Guest room friendly: A double is the sensible pick for a spare room that has to host visiting couples without swallowing the space the rest of the year.
- Easy to dress cheaply: Double sheets and 200 x 200cm duvets are stocked everywhere at every price, useful if this bed is one line on a long furnishing list.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room can't comfortably take anything wider, you're furnishing a guest room that needs to work for visiting couples, or you sleep alone and want proper space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also suits anyone kitting out a whole home at once who wants a size that fits almost any bedroom.
Consider another size if...
You both like space and your room measures around 3m each way or more. In that case we'd recommend the UK king of this mattress instead, which is 15cm wider than the UK double.

What are the dimensions of the Highgrove Lincoln Crib 5 in a UK double?
The UK double measures 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in. That is the standard British double footprint, so it will fit any UK double bed frame and take standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet.
Is the UK double Highgrove Lincoln big enough for a couple?
Two people sharing get 67.5cm of width each, which suits most couples in a typical UK bedroom. If either of you is broad shouldered or moves around a lot at night, the UK king version of this mattress adds 15cm of width, provided your room can take it.
What size room do I need for this mattress in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves space to walk round the bed and, in most rooms, fit bedside tables on both sides, which a UK king often rules out in older houses.
Should I choose the UK double or the UK king of this mattress?
The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, and the trade is floor space against sleeping space. If your bedroom is on the smaller side or shares its floor with a wardrobe and drawers, the UK double is the safer choice. Couples with a larger room usually appreciate the UK king's extra width.
