Pillow top
Extra upholstered fillings, with mini tablet pocket springs, sit on top to make a softer, more cushioned surface. It gives you the plush feel the soft-to-medium rating suggests, though it's single sided, so it can't be flipped.
Pocket spring core
Individual, independent pocket springs with a wire edge border. They contour to your body shape and minimise partner disturbance, so you're less likely to feel each other move.

- The traditional couples' size: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double gives two people sharing 67.5cm each, the long established standard for couples in typical UK bedrooms.
- Leaves room for the rest of the furniture: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which means most doubles fit alongside a wardrobe and drawers where a UK king would dominate.
- Bedside tables on both sides: In an average room, a UK double usually leaves enough clearance for a table each side, something a wider size often sacrifices.
- Easy to dress: Double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet are stocked everywhere at every price point, useful if you're furnishing a whole home on a stretched budget.
- Simpler to get upstairs: A 135cm wide mattress turns the stairs of older terraces and tight new build landings more easily than a UK king or super king.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your bedroom sits around the typical UK size, so a UK king would leave the room feeling cramped. It also makes sense if you're kitting out a guest room for visiting couples, or you sleep alone and want space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like room to stretch, and your bedroom comfortably exceeds 3m x 3m. The Highgrove Pillow Cloud Pocket 3000 also comes in a UK king, which we'd recommend for the extra 15cm of width and 10cm of length.

Is the Highgrove Pillow Cloud Pocket 3000 UK double a good size for a couple?
For most couples, yes. At 135 x 190cm you get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, the standard British couples' allowance for decades. If either of you is tall, note the UK king is 10cm longer as well as 15cm wider, so restless or long-limbed sleepers may prefer sizing up where the room allows.
What room size do I need for the UK double version?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That's our own guidance rather than Highgrove's, and it assumes you want to open drawers and walk round the bed. If your room clears 3m x 3m easily, it's worth weighing up the UK king too.
Will the UK double fit up a narrow staircase?
Usually, yes. At 135cm wide it's one of the easier sizes to manoeuvre through older terraces and tight new build landings. Highgrove doesn't publish handling details for this mattress, though, so if your stairs turn sharply, measure the tightest point and check with the retailer how it's delivered before you order.
How does the UK double compare with the UK small double?
The UK double is 15cm wider than the UK small double, and the two are the same length. That extra width matters most for couples: a small double works for one person or a snug-sharing pair in a compact room, while the double is the more comfortable long-term choice for two.
What bedding do I need for this mattress in a double?
Standard UK double bedding fits: double fitted sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet, both stocked widely at every price. Do check the mattress depth with the retailer before buying fitted sheets, because Highgrove doesn't publish full specifications for this model and a deep pillowtop can need extra-deep sheets.
