- Soft White Fibres. Soft synthetic fillings sit at the top to create a cosy feel. They're durable and resilient, which means the surface should hold its shape rather than flattening quickly.
- Solotex™ fibres. A plush, highly breathable layer that increases airflow through the mattress. This helps dispel heat and moisture, so the sleep surface feels fresher through the night.
- eOlus™ fibre layer. Made from recycled material, this layer adds cushioning with a slightly firmer feel. It's there to keep you supported and comfortable all night.
- Dual density polyester fibre pad. One side adds an extra touch of comfort for you, the other supports the spring unit. Together they help distribute your weight evenly across the mattress.
- Pocket Springs (ReActive™). 1000 ReActive springs sit in individual fabric pockets and move independently. That means they respond to movement and target the areas of your body that need support.

- Real space for one sleeper: At 120cm wide you get the full benefit of all 1000 ReActive springs to yourself, which means you can change position freely without meeting the edge.
- Fits rooms a double overwhelms: The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK Double, which can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't.
- Fibre fillings suit a smaller room: Compact bedrooms can run warm, and the breathable Solotex layer draws heat and moisture away rather than trapping it against you.
- A sensible guest room choice: Medium firm pocket springs suit most visitors, and the size handles the occasional couple while leaving floor space free the rest of the year.
- Easy to dress: 4ft is a standard UK size, so fitted sheets are simple to find and a standard double duvet drapes generously over it.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want more width than a UK single offers, your bedroom, box room or loft conversion cannot take a full double without losing walking space, or you're furnishing a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than every night. The medium firm feel suits back sleepers and most side sleepers, so it works well when you can't predict who'll be using it.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, because 120cm is a squeeze for two adults long term. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider and the same length; allow a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

Is the small double Hypnos Cawthorne Deluxe big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes. The individually pocketed springs respond to each sleeper separately, so a partner's movement is less disruptive than on an open coil bed. For nightly sharing, though, 120cm across is tight for two adults, and we'd point most couples towards the UK double or UK king instead.
What room size do I need for a small double Cawthorne Deluxe?
We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough space to walk round the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. The mattress itself is 120 x 190cm, so measure the room with the door swing in mind, especially in box rooms and loft conversions where every centimetre counts.
How much wider is the small double than the single in this mattress?
The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, and the two are the same length at 190cm. That extra width is the whole point of the size: a teenager or solo adult who has outgrown a single gains real stretching room without the footprint of a full double.
Is this size a good choice for a guest room?
It's one of the better ones. The medium firm feel suits a range of guests, the all-fibre fillings breathe well in a room that isn't heated daily, and the 4ft width sleeps a visiting couple for a weekend while keeping the room usable the rest of the time.
