- Room to stop noticing each other: With 90cm each, a partner who kicks, turns or gets up early is far enough away that the distance does more for your sleep than any comfort layer could.
- 15cm more each than a king: The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king at the same length, which means each of you gains 15cm without the bed getting any longer.
- Space for a small visitor: When a child climbs in after a bad dream, the extra width means the adults can shuffle over rather than one of you ending up on the edge.
- A realistic option for big dogs: If a large dog sleeps on the bed every night, a UK super king gives it somewhere to stretch without pinning your legs under the duvet.
- Sized for a large bedroom: In a generous master bedroom or a period room with high ceilings, a bed of 6ft x 6ft 6in fills the space in proportion where a UK king can look a little lost.
- Consistent feel across the whole surface: Shire rates the mattress medium firm, and the springs with a foam top mean the edges and middle feel alike, so whoever sleeps nearest the centre gets the same support.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed with a partner who moves a lot, or with children or a dog who regularly join you, and your bedroom comfortably clears our suggested minimum of 3m x 2.9m.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is tight, or the bed would crowd the door and wardrobes. We'd recommend the UK king instead, which needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is a super king big enough for two adults and a child?
For occasional visits, yes. The UK super king gives two adults 90cm each, so a small child can settle between you without anyone clinging to the edge. If a child sleeps with you every night into their older years, it will feel fuller, but it remains the most generous standard UK size.
Shire Memory Deluxe 1000 super king or king for a restless partner?
If movement is the problem, the UK super king is the better choice. It is 30cm wider than the UK king at the same length, which gives each of you 15cm more. That extra distance is what reduces disturbance, since the medium firm feel is the same on both sizes.
Will a super king fit in a loft conversion bedroom?
It can, but the sloping ceiling usually decides which wall the headboard goes against, and that may leave less usable floor than the room's measurements suggest. We suggest allowing at least 3m x 2.9m of full height floor, with around 3.5m x 3.2m feeling more comfortable, before choosing the UK super king.
Can two people and a large dog share a super king mattress?
This is the size that makes it workable. With 90cm each for two people, there is usually space at the foot or down one side for a big dog without either of you giving up your share. On a UK king, a large dog tends to push someone towards the edge.
Is a super king too big for a small master bedroom?
Often, yes. A UK super king measures 6ft x 6ft 6in, and we suggest a room of at least 3m x 2.9m, so check the door swing and space for bedside tables before ordering. If you are short on floor space, the UK king needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
