- Room to spread out alone: At 30cm wider than the UK single and the same length, you can sleep diagonally or starfish without an arm dropping off the edge.
- Keeps the door clear: Being 15cm narrower than the UK double, it can leave enough floor for a door to swing open or a drawer to pull out in a box room.
- Fine for the odd shared night: Visiting couples can manage a weekend on the UK small double, which makes it a sensible choice for a guest room nobody sleeps in nightly.
- Easy to dress: The 4ft width is a standard UK size, so you can find frames and small double fitted sheets on the high street without hunting.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and feel hemmed in on a single, or a teenager has outgrown one in a room that can't lose much floor. It also suits a spare room where couples stay now and then but nobody shares nightly, provided the room is at least 2.4m x 2.8m, which is our suggested minimum.
Consider another size if...
You share with a partner every night, or you're tall and your feet reach the end. We'd recommend the UK double for nightly sharing; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Will a Sleepeezee Elite Support Ortho small double fit in a box room?
It often will, and more often than a UK double. We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m for the UK small double. Measure where the door swings and where any wardrobe opens before you order, because the 120cm width is what decides whether you can still move around the bed comfortably.
Is the UK small double Sleepeezee Elite Support Ortho long enough if I'm tall?
It is 190cm long, or 6ft 3in, the same length as the UK single and UK double. If your feet already touch the end of a bed that length, the UK king is 10cm longer, although it needs more floor: we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
Should a teenager move from a single to a UK small double?
If they are sprawling off a UK single, yes. The UK small double is 30cm wider but no longer, so it adds width without eating into the floor at the foot of the bed. You'll need a little more room, though: we suggest 2.4m x 2.8m against 2.1m x 2.8m for the UK single.
Sleepeezee Elite Support Ortho small double or double for a guest room?
If guests are mostly single people, or couples for a night or two, the UK small double is enough and saves 15cm of width. If couples stay regularly, the UK double gives 67.5cm each for two sharing and is kinder over a longer visit. Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
Does a UK small double work in a loft conversion or small rental bedroom?
It is a good match for tight second bedrooms and loft rooms where the ceiling slopes. The narrower 120cm frame leaves more usable floor on the side with full head height. In a loft, check the height where you'll get in and out of bed, as well as the floor footprint.
