Layer Details
- Cover. A Smooth-Tech™ fabric sleep surface, which means a smooth, even feel directly under you rather than a heavily quilted top.
- Fillings. English cotton, Hampshire wool, silk and cashmere. Natural fibres like these wick moisture and regulate temperature, which matters if you tend to overheat at night.
- Spring system. In the king size, 1000 pocket springs sit alongside 3000 micro springs arranged in 7 zones that mirror your body shape. The micro springs respond to smaller pressure changes, which means more precise contouring around your shoulders and hips.
- Support. A double steel-framed support system reinforces the edges and maximises the usable sleep area. In practice, you can sit or sleep near the side without it dipping away.

- Space to spread out alone: At 30cm wider than a UK single, you can sleep diagonally or starfish without an arm dropping off the side.
- Firm edges on a narrower bed: The steel-framed perimeter keeps the sides supportive, which means you can use the full 120cm width instead of drifting towards the middle.
- Keeps the floor clear: Being 15cm narrower than a UK double can decide whether a door swings open fully or a chest of drawers still fits along the wall.
- A standard 4ft frame size: It measures 4ft x 6ft 3in, so it should drop straight onto an existing small double bed frame or divan base.
- Cooler feel for one: The cotton, wool, silk and cashmere fillings breathe well, which helps if you sleep warm and the bed sits in a small, stuffy room.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want a proper double-width bed, your room is compact but meets our suggested minimum of 2.4m x 2.8m, or you are furnishing a guest room where couples stay for a night or two rather than every week.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night and both want room to turn over. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives 67.5cm each; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Village Inspire 4850 small double big enough for a couple every night?
For occasional stays it works, but most couples find it snug for nightly use, particularly with a firm sprung mattress where you feel a partner's movement close by. If you share every night, the UK double gives 67.5cm each. We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
What size bedroom do I need for a Village Inspire 4850 small double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves space to walk round the bed and open a wardrobe in most box rooms, loft conversions and small second bedrooms. Measure where the door swings, because a few centimetres there often matters more than the room's overall size.
Should I get a teenager the single or small double Village Inspire 4850?
If the room allows, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, so a growing teenager has space to sprawl. Both sizes are the same length. If floor space is tight, the UK single needs a room of at least 2.1m x 2.8m, against our suggested 2.4m x 2.8m for the small double.
Is the small double Village Inspire 4850 long enough for tall sleepers?
It is 190cm long, the same as the UK single and UK double. If your feet already reach the end of a standard bed, the UK king is 10cm longer, though it needs a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
Will the Village Inspire 4850 fit my existing 4ft bed frame?
It is made to the standard UK small double size of 120 x 190cm, or 4ft x 6ft 3in, so a matching frame should take it. At 33cm deep, check that your headboard height and fitted sheets suit a deeper mattress.
