Layer Details
- Bonded British fleece wool and cotton. The top layer combines bonded British fleece wool with cotton, which means a naturally soft, breathable surface directly beneath you. Wool also helps regulate temperature through the night.
- Horsehair. Beneath the wool sits a layer of horsehair, a traditional filling that acts like thousands of tiny springs. It gives natural bounce and lets air move freely through the mattress.
- Blended British fleece wool and cotton. A second wool and cotton layer, this time blended, adds a supportive cushion between the fillings above and the springs below. It smooths the transition so you feel comfort rather than coils.
- Hand-nested calico pocket springs. The core is 1,476 vanadium steel pocket springs, each in its own calico pocket, hand-nested in a single layer. Because each spring moves independently, the mattress follows the shape of your body and keeps movement on one side from disturbing the other.

- More room each than a double: You get 75cm each for two sharing, which is 7.5cm more per person than the UK double and enough to stop elbows meeting at night.
- Length for taller sleepers: At 200cm, or 6ft 6in, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, so a partner over six foot is less likely to hang over the end.
- Less disturbance from each other: Each spring sits in its own calico pocket and moves on its own, and the wider UK king adds a little distance between you as well.
- Early starts without waking anyone: If one of you is up hours before the other, independent springs and 75cm each mean getting out of bed shouldn't jolt the person still asleep.
- A middle ground on room size: We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king, a smaller footprint than the UK super king needs.
