- Ticking. The cover is a soft to the touch, finest quality ticking. It's the surface you'll actually feel through your sheet, so the quality here matters more than it sounds.
- Fillings and construction. All natural fillings of British fleece wool, horsehair, bamboo and cotton, which means good breathability and a gentler feel than synthetic padding. The mattress is hand tufted with felt washers and finished with 3 rows of hand side-stitching for a firmer, more usable edge.
- Springs. 1,720 vanadium steel springs in the 5ft size, each with 6 coils and hand-nested in its own calico pocket, so each spring moves independently and follows your shape. A wool protector pad sits over the springs.
- Borders. The borders are upholstered in wool and include air vents and handles. The vents help the natural fillings breathe, and the handles make turning and repositioning a heavy mattress a little easier.
