Layer Details
Gel foam comfort layer
A layer of gel foam sits at the top as the comfort and filling layer. Gel foam is associated with cooling comfort, which suits you if you tend to feel the heat at night.
3000 pocket springs
The support system is made up of 3,000 pocket springs, each working on its own. That lets the mattress respond to your body shape, and it gives the firm, supportive feel the Royal Arthur is built around.
Layer details from mattressman.co.uk and arthursleep.co.uk product pages, October 2026.
- Fits where other sizes can't: At 3ft wide, it leaves floor space for a desk, wardrobe or toy storage in rooms where a UK double simply wouldn't go.
- Full spring count, small footprint: The 3,000 pocket springs come in every size, which means a solo sleeper gets the same shape-following support as a couple on the UK super king.
- Firm support for growing sleepers: The firm tension gives teens and back sleepers a solid, level surface rather than a soft sink-in feel.
- Sensible for guest and dual-use rooms: In a spare room that doubles as an office, a UK single keeps the bed from dominating the space.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm duvet fit, and both are the most widely stocked bedding of any UK size.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for one sleeper: a child moving up from a cot bed, a teenager, a student kitting out a first flat, or a guest room where space is tight. It also suits you if you allow at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space and you, or the person sleeping on it, prefer a firmer feel over a soft surface.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed, or you're an adult who sprawls and keeps waking at the edge. The UK single is 45cm narrower than the UK double, so we'd recommend the Royal Arthur in a UK double instead; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of floor space.

Will the Royal Arthur UK single fit a bunk or mid sleeper frame?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk and mid sleeper frames, so width and length are no problem. Raised frames often have a maximum mattress depth for safety rails, though, and Arthur Sleep doesn't publish a depth for this mattress, so check with the retailer before ordering for a raised frame.
Is the Royal Arthur single a good choice for a child?
It can be, with one caveat. Firm support suits growing backs and front or back sleepers, but lightweight side sleepers may find a firm tension a little unyielding at the shoulder and hip. If your child sleeps mostly on their side and is on the lighter end, a softer mattress may suit them better.
How much room do I need for a UK single mattress?
We suggest at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space for a UK single, which leaves room to walk around the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. That guidance is ours rather than Arthur Sleep's. In a child's room competing with a desk and toy storage, the single is usually the only size that leaves the floor usable.
Can I put two Royal Arthur singles in a guest room?
Yes, and it's a flexible setup: two UK singles suit guests who aren't a couple, and each is 90 x 190cm, so measure your room with a walkway between them in mind. Each bed needs its own bedding, but single sheets are cheap and easy to find.
