Comfort Layer
Soft white synthetic fibres create a cosy feel at the surface, which means a little cushioning before you reach the firm support beneath. They're durable and resilient, so the layer should hold its shape over time.
Support System
1500 individual pocket springs, each encased in its own cloth pocket, adapt to your movement independently. In practice that means personalised support for each part of your body and less disturbance from a partner shifting in the night.
Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Real space for two on a firm surface: With 75cm each for two people sharing, you can both lie flat on your back, the position this extra firm feel is built for, without negotiating elbows.
- Less disturbance from a partner on a different clock: The 1500 pocket springs move independently, so an early alarm on one side transfers less across the 150cm width to whoever is still asleep.
- Length for taller sleepers: At 200cm, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, which matters more than width if one of you is nudging six foot.
- A sturdy feel that suits the extra width: Extra firm support stays consistent edge to edge of the 5ft width, so the outer third of the bed is usable rather than a no-go zone.
- Fits more rooms than a super king: We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king, a target most main bedrooms can meet where a super king would crowd them.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel like a compromise, you or your partner keeps waking when the other gets up hours earlier, or one of you is tall enough that feet hang off a standard 190cm mattress. You also genuinely want an extra firm surface, because the king width gives you room to enjoy it, it doesn't soften it.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of the 2.7m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK king, or you sleep alone. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m and keeps the same extra firm feel.

Is the Bodyshape Ultra Ortho 1500 in a UK king good for couples?
Yes, provided you both want a very firm bed. The 150cm width gives you 75cm each, and the 1500 pocket springs respond to each of you separately, so one person turning over or getting up early disturbs the other less. Lightweight side sleepers may still find the extra firm surface hard on shoulders and hips, whatever the size.
How much space do two people get on a UK king?
You get 75cm each for two people sharing, across the 150cm total width. That's 15cm more between you than a UK double offers, which sounds modest on paper but changes how sharing feels, especially on an extra firm mattress where you can't sink into your own dip and stay there.
Is the UK king long enough for someone over six foot?
At 200cm (6ft 6in), it gives a genuine margin for a sleeper around the six foot mark, and it's 10cm longer than the UK double. If length is the whole reason you're upgrading, the UK king delivers it without the extra width demands of the UK super king, which is the same length.
What size room does the UK king Bodyshape Ultra Ortho need?
We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m, which is our guidance rather than Bodyshape's. That allows walking space on both sides and room for the door and wardrobes. New build master bedrooms often shrink once fitted furniture goes in, so measure the usable floor, not the plan, before committing to the 150 x 200cm footprint.
Should I pick the UK king or the UK super king in this mattress?
The UK king is 30cm narrower than the UK super king and the two are the same length, so the choice is purely about width and room size. If a pet routinely claims a share of the bed or you both sprawl, and your room meets the 3m x 2.9m we suggest for the UK super king, size up. Otherwise the UK king is the easier fit.
