Memory Foam
A 2cm layer of memory foam sits on top, moulding to your body for orthopaedic support and comfort. In practice, this means less pressure on your hips and shoulders as you settle in.
Pocket Springs
Beneath the foam are 800 individual pocket springs, each hand-sewn into its own fabric pocket. They work independently, so the mattress responds to your shape rather than moving as one unit.
Layer details from mattressnextday.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Fits a child's room with space to spare: At 90cm wide, it leaves room for a desk, wardrobe and toy storage where a bigger bed would swallow the floor.
- Proper support for growing bodies: The 800 pocket springs respond to a light frame individually, which means a child or teen gets support where they need it rather than a rigid push-back.
- A sensible guest room choice: Two UK singles fit where one double dominates, so a spare room or study can sleep visitors without losing its day job.
- Works with raised frames: At 24cm deep, it sits within the depth most bunk, cabin and mid-sleeper frames allow, though check your frame's maximum before buying.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Single sheets and duvets are the most widely stocked of any size, which keeps running costs down for a first bed or a rental.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager moving up from a cot or toddler bed, you sleep alone and want to keep floor space in a compact room or loft conversion, or you're kitting out a spare room, student let or first flat where the frame is already a single. Allow at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space and it fits almost anywhere.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who shares the bed, or a solo sleeper who spreads out and finds 90cm restrictive. We'd recommend the UK small double instead: it's 30cm wider, the same length, and needs a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m.

What are the dimensions of the Coolflex Essentials UK single?
The UK single measures 90 x 190cm, or 3ft x 6ft 3in. That's the standard British one-person size, so it fits ordinary single bed frames, standard single fitted sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet without any hunting for unusual bedding.
Will the Coolflex Essentials UK single fit a bunk bed?
In footprint, yes: 90 x 190cm is the standard size UK bunk, cabin and mid-sleeper frames are built around. The one thing to check is depth. This mattress is 24cm deep, and raised frames set a maximum height so the safety rail still does its job, so measure your frame's limit first.
How much floor space does a UK single need in a child's bedroom?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m. That gives you the bed plus enough clearance to open a wardrobe and fit a desk or toy storage alongside. In a room where two siblings share, two UK singles with a walkway between them need proportionally more, so measure before ordering a pair.
Is the Coolflex Essentials single big enough for an adult?
For one adult, yes, provided you don't sprawl. At 90cm wide it's the standard solo size, and the pocket springs give a single sleeper support across the full surface. If you're used to sharing a double to yourself, the width will feel like a step down, and sizing up may suit you better.
Is a UK single long enough for a tall teenager?
At 190cm, the UK single suits most teens comfortably. A very tall sleeper approaching that height may want more legroom: the UK king is 10cm longer as well as 60cm wider, though it needs a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m, which is a big jump from a teenager's bedroom.
