Cover
A knit cover with breathable micro-dots that move air outwards, designed to feel cool and ultra soft. It's the first thing your skin meets, so the airflow focus should help if you tend to run warm.
Emma AirGrid™ Tech
Emma's most advanced AirGrid™ layer, a flexible grid engineered to adapt to your body. In practice, this means pressure relief that adjusts to your shape rather than pushing back uniformly.
MemoryAdapt layer
This gives the first comforting hug, responding to your body with immediate cushioning. It's where the pressure relief you feel at hips and shoulders comes from.
SupportBase
A transition layer that keeps you supported in every zone, easing strain on sensitive pressure points. It also creates a smooth handover to the core layers, so you don't feel a sudden change in feel as you sink in.
Zoned pocket springs
These add bounce, extra support and stability, with zoning to give responsive support where you need it. The pocketed design also reduces motion transfer, useful if you share the bed.
SupportBase
A second SupportBase layer that grounds the zoned spring core and keeps the mattress structure stable. Think of it as the foundation everything else works from.
Bottom cover
A simple base cover that keeps the mattress in place on your bed frame.

- Real stretching room for one: At 120cm across, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means a solo adult can shift position freely all night.
- Fits rooms a double overwhelms: It's 15cm narrower than a UK double, often the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't in a box room or loft conversion.
- Full pressure relief at this width: The AirGrid™ and MemoryAdapt layers cushion hips and shoulders exactly as they do in larger sizes, so choosing compact costs you nothing in comfort.
- Copes with occasional sharing: The zoned pocket springs reduce motion transfer, so a couple staying a few weekends a year can share without every turn waking the other.
- Standard bedding, one caveat: 4ft is a common UK size so frames and sheets are easy to find, though the 28cm depth means you'll need deep fitted sheets.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single, perhaps a teenager whose room can't spare the floor space a double would take, or you're furnishing a small second bedroom, studio or loft conversion where 120cm of width is the most the room will sensibly hold. It also suits a guest room that hosts couples occasionally rather than nightly.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, as 120cm is a squeeze for two adults long term. We'd recommend the UK double instead, or the UK king if your room allows at least a 150cm-wide bed.

Is the Emma Performance 28 small double big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes. At 120 x 190cm two adults can share comfortably enough for guest room stays, and the zoned pocket springs keep one person's movement from disturbing the other. For every night, though, it's tight, and most couples will be happier on the UK double or UK king.
What room size do I need for a small double Emma Performance 28?
We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough clearance to walk round the bed and open drawers or wardrobe doors. It's a useful margin over what a UK double demands, which is often what makes a box room, studio or loft conversion workable.
What bedding fits the Emma Performance 28 in a small double?
You'll need small double (4ft) fitted sheets, and because this mattress is 28cm deep, check they're extra-deep or have generous elastic. A standard double duvet works well on a small double and gives a solo sleeper a pleasing overhang on both sides.
How much wider is a small double than a single?
The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, at 120cm across versus 90cm. Both are 190cm long. That extra width is what makes it a sensible upgrade for a teenager or solo adult who has outgrown a single but hasn't the room for a full double.
Where can I buy the Emma Performance 28 in a UK small double?
Stock in this size varies, so the simplest route is to compare the retailers listed on this page. The prices shown here are updated as retailers change them, which matters on a mattress that isn't cheap, since a size-specific offer can appear and disappear quickly.
