Cover
A sumptuously soft natural cover, designed for enhanced breathability. In practice, that means air can move through the sleep surface rather than trapping heat against you.
Wool
Fully traceable Black Country wool that regulates temperature. Wool wicks moisture and buffers heat, so you should feel more even in temperature through the night.
Fibres
Recyclable, air-blown fibres that give the feel of a million micro springs. This creates a cushioned, responsive surface layer above the main spring unit.
Pocket Springs
Individually encased pocket springs that adapt to your body's movements to minimise disturbance to your partner, while supporting your back and hips. Each spring moves on its own, so one person turning over is less likely to jolt the other.
Layer details from featherandblack.com product page, September 2026.
- 75cm each for two sharers: Two people sharing get 75cm apiece, which means you can turn over without negotiating for territory in the small hours.
- 1,000 pocket springs in this size: The king is listed at 1,000 individually wrapped springs, so each spring reacts to your weight alone rather than your partner's movements.
- Extra length for taller sleepers: At 200cm long, this size adds headroom that anyone approaching 6ft will feel, with traceable wool keeping the surface temperate through the night.
- Kinder to different schedules: If one of you gets up hours before the other, the wider surface and independent springs make an early exit far less likely to wake the sleeper left behind.
- Double-sided at a manageable size: The Elsham is flippable, and at 150cm wide the king is still a two-person turn rather than a wrestle, so evening out wear stays practical.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel cramped, especially if one of you is restless or keeps different hours. It also suits couples where one partner is on the tall side, since the 200cm length gives welcome extra room over a standard double. Expect a medium feel from the pocket springs and wool, so it works best if neither of you wants a very firm surface.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of the 2.7m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK king. In that case the UK double of the Elsham would suit you better, and we'd allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

How much bigger is the Elsham in a UK king than the double?
The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double. The width is what most couples notice first, but the extra length matters just as much if either of you is tall, since a double runs 10cm shorter at 190cm.
What room size do I need for the Elsham in a UK king?
We suggest a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m for a UK king, which leaves enough space to walk around the bed and open drawers. New build master bedrooms can shrink quickly once fitted wardrobes go in, so measure the usable floor rather than the full room.
Does the king size Elsham have more springs than the double?
Yes. Feather & Black lists the UK king at 1,000 pocket springs, against 858 in the double. The spring count scales with the surface area rather than changing the feel, so both sizes share the same medium tension.
Is a UK king Elsham wide enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. Two sharers get 75cm each, noticeably more than a double offers, and the individually wrapped springs limit motion transfer on top of that. If a dog routinely claims part of the bed, or you both like to sprawl, sizing up to the UK super king is the safer call.
Is the Elsham UK king long enough for someone over 6ft?
At 200cm (5ft x 6ft 6in overall), it gives a sleeper over 6ft a reasonable margin before their feet reach the edge. If you specifically need more length than this, note the UK super king is the same length as the UK king; the gain there is width only.
