Layer Details
- Top surface. Generously layered with 100% natural cashmere, mohair, cotton, hemp, flax and British wool. This is the winter side, where insulating wool with silk absorbs moisture and helps regulate temperature, which means fewer clammy nights in colder months.
- Fillings. Soft cashmere, sourced as a byproduct from the fashion industry, brings insulation and a supremely gentle surface feel. It sits alongside traceable British sheep's wool from the British Wool partnership.
- Springs. 13,060 responsive springs across seven layers of high-density micro and Cortec pocket springs, which means very precise, localised support. The Cortec system is glueless and 100% recyclable.
- Reverse surface. A breathable cotton side designed for summer use. Flip the mattress with the seasons to get the right sleeping temperature year round.

- Fits a compact room: At 90cm wide it slots into small bedrooms and loft conversions with sloped ceilings, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space.
- Easier to flip at this width: The Byron needs turning between its winter and summer sides, which is far more manageable in a UK single than in the wider sizes.
- Natural fillings for one sleeper: Cashmere, British wool, silk and cotton regulate temperature well, which matters for teenagers and hot solo sleepers alike.
- Firm support that lasts through growth spurts: The firm, dual-sided build suits a child or teen you'd rather not buy for again in three years.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet fit, and both are the most widely stocked bedding of any UK size.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want a genuinely natural, firm mattress rather than the budget foam that usually fills this size, or you're furnishing a child's or teenager's room and treating the bed as a long-term buy. It also suits a guest room where you'd like visitors sleeping on something better than an afterthought, provided the budget genuinely stretches this far.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who spreads out at night, or the bed may end up shared. We'd recommend the UK double instead: it's 45cm wider than the UK single at the same length, and we suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

How big is the Harrison Spinks Byron single mattress?
The Byron in a UK single measures 90 x 190cm, which is 3ft x 6ft 3in. We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space so you can walk round the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe comfortably. It fits standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet.
Is the Byron single a good choice for a child's or teenager's bedroom?
The firm feel and natural, breathable fillings suit growing sleepers well, and the 90cm width leaves room for a desk and storage in a typical child's room. The price is hard to justify for a bed that may be outgrown, so it makes most sense for a teenager who'll use it for years.
Can I use the Byron single on a bunk or mid sleeper frame?
The single is the right width for most bunk and mid sleeper frames, but the Byron is 29cm deep, which is deeper than many raised frames allow. Check your frame's maximum mattress depth and guard rail height first, and remember the seasonal flip is awkward on a top bunk.
Is the Byron single easier to flip than the larger sizes?
Noticeably, yes. The Byron needs turning between its wool-rich winter side and cotton summer side, and at 90cm wide one person can usually manage it alone. Across the wider sizes this becomes a two-person job, so the UK single is the practical pick if flipping worries you.
Should I buy the Byron single or size up to the UK double?
If there's any chance of sharing, or you simply like space to stretch, size up. The UK single is 45cm narrower than the UK double and the two are the same length, so you gain width without needing a longer room. Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
