Layer Details
Top layer
A chemical-free sleeping surface blending British wool and viscose, finished with traditional tufting. The tufts hold the fillings in place, which means less settlement over time, though you will feel a slightly dimpled surface rather than a smooth one.
Filling
Generous layers of farm-grown hemp, flax and 100% British wool. These natural fibres breathe and wick moisture, which means better temperature regulation than synthetic fillings, especially for hot sleepers.
Spring system
Over 5,000 high-density micro and Cortec pocket springs, arranged in two layers of advanced pocket springs that adapt to your body and relieve key pressure points. The open structure also lets the mattress breathe, keeping the natural fillings fresh.
Layer details from featherandblack.com product page, September 2026.
- 90cm each, every night: Two sharers get 90cm of width apiece, which means you can both change position freely without ever meeting in the middle.
- Distance beats any comfort layer: If your partner fidgets, the extra 30cm over a UK king does more for your sleep than any filling could.
- Room for the whole household: When children or a large dog treat your bed as theirs, this footprint means the adults still get a fair share.
- Firm support across the full width: The 5,770 pocket springs respond individually, so a heavier sleeper on one side barely registers on the other, even at this width.
- Natural fillings that breathe at scale: Wool, hemp and flax wick moisture across the whole 180cm surface, useful when several warm bodies share one mattress.
- Fills a large master properly: In a period property or big new build bedroom, a UK king can look undersized; the UK super king sits in proportion.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the most space any standard UK size offers, your children or pets regularly join you and everyone still needs room to sleep, or your master bedroom is large enough that a smaller bed would look lost in it. It also suits couples where one person is restless and the other is tired of knowing about it.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of the 3m x 2.9m we suggest as a minimum, or you'd struggle to get a 180cm mattress up the stairs. The UK king would suit you better, and needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

How much space does each person get on a super king Chaucer?
90cm each for two people sharing. That matches the width of a UK single per person, which is why sharers on a UK super king so rarely disturb each other. On a firm tension mattress like the Chaucer, where you sleep on rather than in the surface, that extra room to spread out is especially noticeable.
Is the Chaucer super king good for a restless partner?
Yes, arguably the best case for it. The pocket springs absorb movement individually rather than transferring it across the mattress, and the 180cm width adds physical distance on top. Between the two, a partner who turns over a dozen times a night becomes far easier to sleep through than on a UK double or UK king.
How much bigger is the Chaucer in a UK super king than a UK king?
The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king, and the two are the same length at 200cm. That 30cm is roughly the width of a pillow, all of it usable sleeping space. If children or pets join you regularly, it is the difference between a squeeze and a reasonable night.
Will the Chaucer super king cope with children climbing in at night?
Better than most sizes would. With 180cm of width there is usually still a fair share for the adults when a small visitor arrives, and the firm tension means a child at the edge does not create a slope everyone rolls towards. The tufted natural fillings also settle less than loose synthetic layers under uneven use.
What room do I need for the Harrison Spinks Chaucer in a super king?
We suggest at least 3m x 2.9m, which allows walking space on both sides and room for doors and drawers to open. That is our own guidance rather than the manufacturer's. Measure the door swing and any landing turns before ordering too: a 180 x 200cm mattress is the size most likely to catch on a tight staircase.
