Cover
A breathable Belgian damask cover, woven without FR chemicals. That means fire safety is achieved through the fabric itself rather than chemical treatments.
Egyptian Cotton
A generous layer of super fine Egyptian cotton strands gives a soft, plush sleep surface. It also wicks moisture, which means you stay cool and dry through the night.
British Wool and Flax Blend
A blend of British wool and flax that breathes well and helps regulate temperature. The wool is traceable, collected from Harrison Spinks' own Yorkshire farm.
Viscose Wool
Viscose wool derived from the wood pulp of eucalyptus, beech and pine trees. It adds another breathable, temperature-regulating layer to the fillings.
Micro Springs
Two layers of in-house designed micro springs that contour to your body much like foam. They offer support and relief that adapt to your individual shape.
Cortec™ Pocket Springs
Glue-free Cortec pocket springs that support your pressure points and adapt to changes in your weight as you move. In practice, that means consistent pressure relief whichever position you settle into.

- The classic shared footprint: At 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, the UK double fits comfortably in rooms where a UK king would crowd the walking space.
- 67.5cm each for two sharing: Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, enough for most couples who sleep reasonably close rather than starfished.
- Micro springs work at close quarters: Two layers of contouring micro springs adapt to each sleeper's shape, which means your partner's weight doesn't dictate how supported you feel on your side of the bed.
- Breathable when sharing: Two bodies generate more heat than one, and the wool, flax and Egyptian cotton fillings wick moisture and let air move, so a shared double stays cooler through the night.
- Easy to dress: Double sheets and 200 x 200cm double duvets are stocked everywhere at every price, handy if you're furnishing a whole home and the budget is stretched thin.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room sits around the 2.6m x 2.8m minimum we suggest, or a little above it. It also fits if you're kitting out a guest room for visiting couples and want a proper natural-filled mattress rather than a token spare, or you sleep alone and like space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both want real space, or one of you is tall, since the UK double is 190cm long. We'd recommend the UK king instead: 15cm wider, 10cm longer, and we suggest a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

Is the Durham 6950 in a UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, and the Cortec pocket springs respond to each sleeper individually, so one person shifting position is less noticeable to the other. If either of you sleeps spread out, or you share with a restless partner, the extra width of the UK king is worth considering.
What room size do I need for a double Durham 6950?
We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m for a UK double, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves enough clearance to open drawers and walk round the bed, and in most rooms of that size you'll still fit bedside tables on both sides.
Will the Durham 6950 double fit up narrow stairs?
It needs thought. The Durham 6950 arrives flat rather than rolled, so you're moving a full 135 x 190cm, 28cm-deep mattress in one piece. Measure any turns in the staircase and the landing before ordering, particularly in older terraced houses or new builds with tight landings, as a flat double cannot be squashed round a corner.
Should I choose the Durham 6950 in a double or a king?
It usually comes down to the room. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, and suits rooms from our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m upwards. If you can allow at least 2.7m x 2.9m and you share every night, the UK king gives each of you noticeably more space.
