Pillow top surface
A deeply filled pillow top with micro springs and natural fillings, which means a softer, cloud-like feel at the surface before you reach the firmer support below. This takes the edge off the firm rating for the first few centimetres.
Natural fillings
Fully traceable British wool and cotton, plus hemp and flax sourced straight from the Harrison Spinks farm. Natural fibres like these help the mattress breathe, which means a cooler night if you tend to overheat.
Pocket springs
11,000 responsive springs in dynamic layers of high-density micro, Posturfil and Cortec™ pocket springs. Six layers adapt to your body as you sleep, relieving pressure while letting air move through the mattress.

- A shared size for typical rooms: The UK double fits comfortably where a UK king would dominate, so you keep walking space and room for furniture on both sides of the bed.
- 67.5cm each for two people sharing: That's the standard couples' allowance, and the Fitzgerald's six spring layers respond to each of you separately rather than transferring every movement across the bed.
- Natural fillings across the full width: British wool, cotton, hemp and flax breathe well, which means two warm bodies in 135cm of width are less likely to wake up clammy.
- Firm support that suits sharing: A firm mattress sags less in the middle over years of two-person use, and the pillow top softens the surface where shoulders and hips land.
- Easy to dress: Double sheets and duvets are stocked everywhere, though at 35cm deep you'll want extra-deep fitted sheets specifically.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your bedroom is a typical UK size, where a UK king would leave the room feeling cramped. It also suits a solo sleeper who wants proper space to spread out, or a guest room that regularly hosts visiting couples, since the firm feel and natural fillings work for a wide range of guests.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space and your room measures at least 2.7m x 2.9m. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, and we'd recommend it if the room allows.

Is the Harrison Spinks Fitzgerald double big enough for two adults?
Yes, with the usual caveat. At 135 x 190cm you each get 67.5cm of width, the traditional couples' allowance in the UK. The Fitzgerald's 11,000 springs across six layers help here, because each side responds to the person on it rather than the bed moving as one. Broad-shouldered couples may still prefer the UK king.
What room size do I need for the Fitzgerald in a UK double?
We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows bedside tables on both sides and space to walk around the bed. This is our own guidance rather than the manufacturer's, so measure your room, including door swings, before committing.
How heavy is the UK double Fitzgerald to move upstairs?
Harrison Spinks doesn't publish a weight for this mattress, but at 35cm deep with 11,000 springs and dense natural fillings, a UK double will be a genuine two-person carry. If you live in an older terrace with a turning staircase or a new build with a tight landing, measure the route before ordering.
Should I get the Fitzgerald in a UK double or a UK king?
It comes down to your room. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it. If your room clears that comfortably, the UK king gives a couple noticeably more space. If it doesn't, the UK double keeps the room usable.
Where can I buy the Fitzgerald mattress in a UK double?
Compare the retailers listed on this page; the prices shown here are updated as retailers change them. The Fitzgerald sits at the premium end of the market, so it's worth checking the live table rather than assuming, since offers on a mattress at this level can shift meaningfully between visits.
