Layer Details
- Cover. An in-house woven cover that's FR chemical-free, meeting fire safety standards naturally. That means fewer chemicals close to where you breathe all night.
- Wool comfort layer. Layers of British wool give a naturally soft yet springy feel. Wool insulates in winter and stays breathable in summer, so it works year round.
- British wool, hemp and flax blend. An additional comfort layer that increases breathability. It also helps reduce a build-up of mildew and mould over time.
- Cotton, hemp and flax blend. This layer wicks away moisture and adds further breathability. Useful if you tend to sleep warm or live somewhere damp.
- Ecotex layer. A sustainable layer made from recycled fibres that strengthens the mattress. It also keeps material out of landfill.
- Micro springs. 4500 mini springs provide targeted, contoured comfort. Their small size means more contact points with your body and better airflow through the mattress.
- Pocket springs. 1000 Cortec Quad Revolution springs, each with a smaller spring inside and secured in groups of four. They move independently, which means your partner's tossing shouldn't reach your side of the bed.

- Real room to spread out alone: At 120cm wide, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means a solo sleeper can shift position freely all night.
- Fits rooms a double would crowd: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, so it works in box rooms, studios and loft conversions where walking space around the bed is tight.
- Gentle feel, full width to enjoy it: The soft to medium micro-spring surface cradles hips and shoulders, and the extra width lets a side sleeper use that contouring across more of the bed.
- Copes with occasional sharing: The 1000 pocket springs move independently, so when a guest room hosts a couple for a weekend, one person's turning shouldn't disturb the other.
- Breathable at any size: Wool, hemp and flax fillings with no foam keep air moving, a genuine plus in the smaller, sometimes stuffier rooms this size tends to occupy.
- Standard 4ft fittings: The small double is an established UK size, so frames, fitted sheets and protectors are easy to find on the high street.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone, you've outgrown a single, and your room can't give up the extra width a double takes. Or you're furnishing a guest room or small second bedroom in a rental that hosts couples occasionally rather than nightly, and you'd rather they had a gentle, natural-filled mattress than a cramped compromise. Downsizers moving a bedroom into a smaller home will find it fits where old furniture won't.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, or a partner stays most weekends. The UK small double is workable for the odd night together, but for regular sharing we'd recommend the UK double instead, allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m of room.

Is a small double big enough for the Harrison Spinks Silver 6500 to feel soft?
Yes. The feel doesn't change with size, and the UK small double gives one sleeper the full benefit of it. The 4500 micro springs contour to your hips and shoulders wherever you lie, and at 120cm wide there's space to roll and resettle without reaching the edge.
Will the Silver 6500 small double fit in a box room?
Usually, yes. The mattress is 120 x 190cm and we suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m, which leaves space to open the door and walk down one side. Measure with your frame in mind too, as some designs add several centimetres beyond the mattress itself.
Can a couple use the Silver 6500 in a UK small double?
For occasional nights, yes. The pocket springs work independently, so movement transfers less than on an open-coil guest bed. For every night, 120cm across two adults is a squeeze, and the soft to medium feel means you'll notice each other more when you're this close. Regular couples should size up.
Is the small double a good size for a teenager?
Often, yes. It's 30cm wider than the UK single but the same length, so a growing teenager gets adult-level width without losing the floor space a full double takes. The gentle feel suits lighter bodies well, giving proper contouring where a firmer mattress might feel like a board.
How does the small double compare with the UK double for this mattress?
The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK double, and both are the same length at 190cm. The construction is identical, so the choice comes down to who sleeps there and how big the room is: solo sleepers and compact rooms favour the small double, nightly couples the double.
