- Real space for one: At 120cm wide, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means a solo sleeper can sprawl without paying for width they don't use.
- Fits compact rooms: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, which can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't.
- Sensible for occasional couples: Two people can share comfortably for a few weekends a year, making this a practical pick for a guest room that mostly sits empty.
- Standard 4ft sizing: The small double is an established UK size, so frames, small double fitted sheets and standard double duvets are all easy to find.
- Room to plan around: We suggest a bedroom of at least 2.4m x 2.8m, which leaves walking space on both sides in a typical box room or loft conversion.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a single, perhaps a teenager whose room can't spare any more floor space, or you're furnishing a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly. It also suits a loft conversion or studio where a UK double would leave nowhere to stand beside the bed.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, in which case 120cm feels tight over time. If your room allows it, we'd recommend the UK double of this same mattress instead, which gives you an extra 15cm of width.

What size is the Highgrove Aspen Memory Pocket 1500 small double?
The UK small double measures 120 x 190cm, or 4ft x 6ft 3in. That's 30cm wider than the UK single and 15cm narrower than the UK double, sharing the same 190cm length as both.
Is a small double big enough for a couple every night?
For occasional stays, yes: two adults can share a UK small double comfortably for a weekend. As a nightly bed for a couple it's a squeeze, and we'd suggest the UK double of this mattress if your room can take the extra 15cm of width.
What room size do I need for the small double Aspen Memory Pocket 1500?
We suggest a bedroom of at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough space to walk around the bed and open drawers, which is exactly why this size works in box rooms and loft conversions where a UK double would dominate.
