Cover
A soft, microquilted Coolmax® stretch fabric cover designed to help regulate body temperature. In practice, that means heat and moisture are drawn away from you rather than trapped at the surface.
Fillings
Hypoallergenic fillings sit beneath the cover. These are a helpful choice if dust or allergens tend to disturb your sleep.
Spring construction
Traditional coil spring construction provides support, with reinforced edges to minimise roll off. You should feel a uniform, springy support across the whole surface, including near the sides.
Layer details from furniturevillage.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Real space for one: At 120cm wide, it's 30cm wider than a UK single, which means a solo adult can spread out without moving up to a full double frame.
- Fits compact rooms: It's 15cm narrower than a UK double, so a box room, loft conversion or studio keeps walking space beside the bed.
- Firm support edge to edge: The coil springs have reinforced edges, useful on a narrower mattress where you're more likely to sleep close to the side.
- Cooler surface in a small room: The Coolmax® stretch cover draws heat and moisture away, a help in compact bedrooms that warm up quickly overnight.
- Two-sided at 4ft: You can flip it to spread the wear, and a small double is a manageable size to turn without a second pair of hands.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but your room can't take a full double, you're kitting out a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly, or you're downsizing and the bed has to fit the new room. In every case, you should want an extra firm feel, because that's what this mattress delivers.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, or your room can comfortably take something wider. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider at the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

What size is the Highgrove Dream Coil in a UK small double?
It measures 120 x 190cm, or 4ft x 6ft 3in, with a depth of 24cm. That's the same length as a UK single and a UK double, sitting between them for width. It takes small double (4ft) fitted sheets, though a standard double duvet works fine on top.
What room size do I need for the small double Dream Coil?
We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough space to walk around the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe, which matters in the box rooms and loft conversions this size is usually bought for. Measure with the door swing in mind, as clearance is often the deciding factor.
Should I get the Dream Coil in a UK small double or a UK double?
It comes down to your room. The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK double and the same length, and that 15cm can be the difference between a door that clears and one that doesn't. If your room meets our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double, the extra width is usually the better buy.
Is the small double Dream Coil okay for couples?
For occasional nights, yes, which makes it a sensible guest room choice. Two adults sharing every night will feel squeezed at 120cm wide, and the extra firm surface gives you little forgiveness when you can't spread out. For nightly sharing we'd point you to the UK double, or the UK king if your room allows 2.7m x 2.9m.
Is this size a good upgrade from a single for a teenager?
Often, yes. The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single and exactly the same length, so a teenager gains real stretching room without the bed eating more floor space than the room can spare. One caution: extra firm is a specific preference, so make sure the sleeper actually likes a hard surface before committing.
