- The classic shared footprint: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double is the size most couples' rooms were designed around, so it rarely fights the furniture.
- Space for two without a huge room: Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, enough for most couples who sleep reasonably close.
- Works in a first flat or second bedroom: In a room that also has to take a wardrobe and drawers, a UK double usually still leaves you walking space on both sides.
- A sensible guest room choice: A double handles visiting couples and solo guests alike, which makes it the safe pick for a spare room that sees mixed use.
- Bedding is cheap and everywhere: Double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet are stocked at every price point, so dressing the bed costs less than for larger sizes.
This size suits you if...
You're a couple in a typical UK bedroom where a UK king would crowd the room, you're furnishing a guest room that needs to work for pairs and singles, or you sleep alone and want space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. Your room offers at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which is the minimum we'd suggest for a double.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space and your room is comfortably over 3m each way. The Highgrove Kingston Crib 5 in a UK king would suit you better, giving each of you noticeably more width.

How much space does each person get on the Highgrove Kingston Crib 5 UK double?
Two people sharing get 67.5cm each across the 135cm width. That's comfortable for most couples, though a little snug if one of you sprawls or you sleep with a child or pet in the bed. In that case a wider size makes more sense than persevering.
What's the difference between the double and the UK king in this mattress?
The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, and the king is also longer at 150 x 200cm against the double's 135 x 190cm. The extra length helps taller sleepers, but the king needs a bigger room to leave space for bedside tables on both sides.
Will the Highgrove Kingston Crib 5 double fit a small bedroom?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m for a UK double, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves room to open drawers and walk around the bed. Measure with your other furniture in mind, since a wardrobe eats into that clearance quickly.
Should I choose the double or the UK small double for this mattress?
The UK double is 15cm wider than the UK small double, which matters if two of you share it every night. The UK small double earns consideration only where the room is genuinely tight or you sleep alone. For regular couples' use, we'd pick the UK double.
Is the double size of this mattress easy to get up narrow stairs?
Highgrove doesn't publish weight or handling detail for this mattress, so we can't say whether it arrives rolled or flat. If you have a turning staircase in an older terrace or a tight new build landing, check with the retailer listed on this page before ordering.
