- Real stretching room for one: At 30cm wider than a UK single, this small double gives a solo sleeper genuine space to spread out without dominating the room.
- Fits rooms a double won't: It's 15cm narrower than a UK double, which can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't.
- A practical guest room size: Couples can share it comfortably for the occasional weekend, so it suits a spare room that hosts visitors a few times a year.
- Standard 4ft sizing: Small double is a standard UK size, so frames and fitted sheets are easy to find, and a standard double duvet works fine on top.
- Modest room requirement: We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m, which brings box rooms, loft conversions and small second bedrooms into play.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but can't spare the floor space a UK double demands, your loft conversion or box room measures at least our suggested 2.4m x 2.8m, or you're furnishing a guest room where couples stay a few weekends a year rather than nightly.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night and want proper space for two. The Highgrove Lancaster in a UK double gives you 15cm more width, and we'd recommend it instead if your room allows.

Is the UK small double Highgrove Lancaster Pocket 2000 big enough for one adult?
Yes, comfortably. At 120 x 190cm it gives a solo sleeper 30cm more width than a UK single, which you'll feel every time you roll over or starfish. If you're a taller sleeper, note the 190cm length is the same as a UK single and UK double, so height isn't a reason to size up here.
Will the Highgrove Lancaster in a UK small double fit a box room?
Often, yes, and that's much of this size's appeal. We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m so you can still open the door and walk round the bed. Measure your usable floor first, allowing for radiators and built-in wardrobes, because a small double is only sensible if you can actually get past it.
Can a couple sleep on the small double Highgrove Lancaster every night?
For occasional stays, yes; for every night, we wouldn't advise it. At 120cm wide it's 15cm narrower than a UK double, which two adults will notice over months of shared use. It's a sound guest room choice for visiting couples, but full-time sharers would be happier on the Highgrove Lancaster in a UK double.
Should I buy the Highgrove Lancaster in a small double or a double?
It comes down to your room. If the space clears our suggested 2.4m x 2.8m minimum with room to spare, the UK double's extra 15cm of width is usually the better long-term buy. If you're squeezing a bed into a studio, loft conversion or compact second bedroom, the UK small double leaves you space to live around it.
What should I check before buying this mattress in a small double?
The 120 x 190cm dimensions and room fit are straightforward; the mattress itself is less so. Highgrove doesn't publish construction, firmness or comfort layer details for this model, so ask the retailer for the full specification in writing before ordering. Prices shown on this page are updated as retailers change them, so compare there rather than relying on a remembered figure.
