- Fits compact rooms: At 3ft x 6ft 3in, it slots into box rooms, loft conversions and children's bedrooms where a bed has to share space with a desk and wardrobe.
- Contract spec suits hard-working single rooms: Crib 5 contract specification, which means it meets the fire safety standard required for guest houses and rentals, where single rooms are common.
- Twin guest room friendly: Two UK singles set up as separate beds give a spare room flexibility a single double can't, useful when guests aren't always a couple.
- Standard bunk and cabin footprint: The 90 x 190cm footprint matches most UK bunk, cabin and mid-sleeper frames, though check depth against the guard rail before buying for a raised bed.
- Cheapest bedding to run: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet fit, and both are the most widely stocked and affordable bedding of any UK size.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager, furnishing a guest house or rental single room where Crib 5 fire safety compliance matters, or setting up a spare room with one or two single beds rather than a double. It also suits a student room or first flat where the frame is already provided and takes a standard 90 x 190cm mattress.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult couple, or a solo sleeper who wants space to spread out. The UK small double gives a lone adult noticeably more width, and for two people sharing we'd recommend the UK double as the practical minimum.

What room size do I need for a UK single mattress?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space for a UK single. That leaves room to walk round the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. In a child's room where the bed competes with toy storage and a desk, the single's 90cm width is what keeps everything workable.
Will the UK single Lincoln Crib 5 fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk, cabin and mid-sleeper frames. The one caution is depth: raised frames have a maximum mattress depth so the guard rail stays effective, and Highgrove doesn't publish a depth for this mattress. Check with the retailer before buying for a raised bed.
Is the Lincoln Crib 5 in a UK single suitable for a guest house?
Yes, arguably more so than most sizes. Crib 5 is a contract fire safety specification, which means it meets the standard required for commercial settings like guest houses and rentals, and single rooms are where that trade tends to buy in volume. For a twin room, two UK singles offer more booking flexibility than one double.
How much narrower is a UK single than a UK double?
The UK single is 45cm narrower than the UK double, at 90cm wide against 135cm. That difference is why a single fits rooms a double never could, and equally why we'd steer couples towards the UK double. For one sleeper who simply wants more space, the UK small double sits between the two at 120cm.
Can I fit two UK singles in one shared children's room?
Often, yes. Each bed needs a 90 x 190cm footprint plus a walkway between them, so measure your room against two beds side by side before committing. For siblings sharing, two UK singles usually beat one larger bed, and if floor space is tight a bunk frame stacks the same two mattresses vertically.
