Layer Details
- Damask cover. A finely woven damask fabric, which means a soft-touch surface that doesn't trap heat. It's a durable weave built for long-term use.
- Soft white fibres. Two layers of soft white fibres sit just beneath the cover to improve breathability. In practice, this helps the mattress feel fresher through the night.
- Cotton and polyester blend. A breathable blend of natural cotton and polyester that wicks moisture away from you. This keeps air circulating rather than building up warmth.
- Rebound polyester and cotton fibres. A further layer of rebound polyester and cotton fibres adds a touch of comfort. It softens the surface slightly without compromising the firm feel.
- Dense polyester layer. A dense polyester layer that reinforces the firm, orthopaedic character of the mattress. This is where much of the extra firm feel comes from.
- Spring insulation pad. An insulation pad sits between the comfort layers and the springs. It protects the spring unit and adds durability over the years.
- Pocket springs. 1500 pocket springs, each secured in its own fabric pocket so they move independently. That means support tailored to your shape and less disturbance from a restless partner.

- 90cm of width each: Two people sharing get 90cm each, which means you can both change position freely without ever meeting in the middle.
- Distance plus independent springs: The 1500 pocket springs move separately, and at this width your partner's turning happens far enough away that little of it reaches you.
- Room for night-time visitors: If a child pads in at 3am, or the dog treats the bed as routine, there is genuinely space for everyone to settle.
- Firm support across the full width: The extra firm build holds its solid, orthopaedic feel edge to edge, so neither sleeper drifts towards the centre.
- A traditional build that breathes: Cotton and polyester layers rather than foam let air move through, a real help when three bodies share one bed.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the most separation a standard UK size can give, or children and pets regularly join you and a UK king has started to feel crowded. It also suits couples where one partner is restless: at 90cm each, movement on one side rarely registers on the other, and the extra firm surface adds very little bounce of its own.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is smaller than the 3m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK super king. In that case we'd recommend the UK king instead: it still gives 75cm each for two sharing, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

Is the Relyon Heyford Ortho 1500 super king good for couples?
Yes, particularly if one of you sleeps badly next to a fidgeter. You get 90cm of width each, and because each of the 1500 springs is pocketed individually, movement on one side barely travels. The extra firm feel suits back and front sleepers best, so check you both want that before sizing up.
How much bigger is the super king than the UK king version?
The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king, and the two are the same length. For two people sharing, that works out at 15cm more width each: the UK king gives 75cm per person, the UK super king gives 90cm. The firmness and construction are identical, so you're paying purely for space.
Will the Relyon Heyford Ortho 1500 super king fit my bedroom?
The mattress measures 180 x 200cm, which is 6ft x 6ft 6in. We suggest a room of at least 3m x 2.9m so you can still open wardrobes and walk round both sides. In a period master or a large new build main bedroom it sits comfortably; in an average double room it will dominate.
Is a super king pocket spring mattress hard to get upstairs?
It can be. This is a traditional 32cm deep pocket spring mattress, so it won't roll or fold the way boxed foam does, and 180cm of width is awkward on tight landing turns. Measure your stairwell, door frames and any turns before ordering, and plan for two people to carry it.
Is the super king worth it if children share the bed?
Often, yes. With 180cm of width, a wandering child can settle between you and both adults still keep a reasonable share of the bed. The extra firm surface also means less bounce when someone climbs in. Two caveats: your room needs to take it, and a small child may find the surface firmer than they're used to.
