Key benefits
- Room to sprawl when you sleep alone: It's 30cm wider than the UK single, which means you can turn over or stretch out on the pillowtop without feeling perched near the edge.
- Kinder to compact rooms: Being 15cm narrower than the UK double leaves slightly more floor beside the frame, which can decide whether a box room door still opens past the bed.
- Wider without reaching further: The UK small double keeps the same length as the UK single, so a teenager moving up gains width while the bed sits no further into the room.
- Bedding is easy to find: Small double fitted sheets are a standard UK item and a regular double duvet covers the bed, so you won't need to hunt for specialist linen.
- Fine for visiting couples: Two people can share it comfortably enough for a weekend, which makes it a sensible guest room choice where nobody sleeps every night.
This size suits you if...
You sleep on your own and keep waking up against the edge of a single, or your bedroom is a loft conversion or box room that a standard double would crowd. It also suits you if you're kitting out a spare room where couples stay now and then rather than every night.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed with a partner every night and both want space to move. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives 67.5cm each for two sharing; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

FAQ's
Is the Relyon Sophia Pillowtop 3000 small double big enough for two people?
For occasional stays, yes. Couples visiting for a weekend will manage on the UK small double, although it feels snug if both of you move around in your sleep. For sharing every night, the UK double gives 67.5cm each for two sharing and is the more comfortable choice, provided your room allows at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
What size bedroom do I need for a UK small double Relyon Sophia Pillowtop?
We suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m for the UK small double, which leaves room to walk round the bed and open a wardrobe. In a loft conversion, check the ceiling height where the bed will sit as well: Relyon doesn't publish a depth for this pillowtop, so measure the mattress on arrival or ask the retailer first.
Is a small double a good upgrade from a single for a teenager?
If width is the problem, yes. The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single but the same length, so it fits a bedroom that can't give up much floor. If your teenager is outgrowing the bed lengthways, extra width won't help; the UK king is 10cm longer, though it needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
Will standard small double sheets fit the Relyon Sophia Pillowtop 3000?
Small double (4ft) fitted sheets match the 120 x 190cm footprint, and a standard double duvet covers it. The one thing to check is pocket depth: pillowtops tend to sit taller than flat-topped mattresses, and Relyon doesn't publish a depth, so choose deep-pocket sheets or measure the mattress before buying linen.
Small double or double: which Relyon Sophia Pillowtop 3000 should I buy?
Pick the UK small double if you sleep alone or your room is tight, since it's 15cm narrower and needs at least 2.4m x 2.8m. Choose the UK double if you share most nights; both are the same length, but the UK double needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
