- Tencel™ Lyocell sleep surface. A silky, soft-touch top layer woven to allow airflow and move moisture away from you, which means you're less likely to wake up clammy. It's the first thing you'll feel through your bedding.
- Platinum comfort layer. Silentnight says this is 10x more breathable than memory foam with the same level of pressure relief. In practice that means a cocooning, cushioned feel without the warmth foam can trap.
- British Wool Comfort Layer. Wool from Cheviot sheep, flexible and breathable, helping regulate temperature so you stay cool in summer and warm in winter. It's a natural material doing a job synthetic layers often struggle with.
- Mirapocket® springs and mini pocket springs. 600 Mirapocket® springs work with 1000 mini pocket springs, which means each spring responds to your body independently for tailored support. The dual layer also increases breathability through the core of the mattress.

How much space do two people get on a UK double Silentnight British Wool 1600?
You get 67.5cm each for two people sharing. That's the long standing UK standard for couples, and the 1600 pocket springs mean each of you gets independent support within your own side. If you're both broad shouldered or restless, the UK super king gives you noticeably more, but it needs a much larger room.
Will a UK double fit a bedroom with bedside tables on both sides?
Usually, yes. We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for a UK double, and around 3m x 3m is the comfortable norm. At the minimum you'll fit slim tables either side with walkable gaps; in a snug second bedroom or first flat you may need to choose between a second table and a chest of drawers.
Does the Silentnight British Wool 1600 come in a UK king?
No. This mattress is made in a UK single, UK double and UK super king only. If the UK double feels too small, the jump is to the UK super king, which is 45cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, so check your room can take it before committing.
Is the UK double Silentnight British Wool 1600 worth it for one person?
If your room allows it, a UK double is a genuinely comfortable solo size: all 135cm to yourself, with space for a pet at the foot of the bed. The UK single is 45cm narrower and the same length, so it suits tighter rooms, but most solo sleepers who try a double don't go back.
Can you get a UK double mattress up a narrow staircase?
Silentnight doesn't publish a weight or delivery format for this mattress, so measure before you order. A 135 x 190cm pocket spring mattress is manageable for two people but awkward on turning stairs in older terraces or tight new build landings. Check stairwell width, ceiling height at turns and the bedroom doorway.
