- Hand tufted sleep surface. A hand tufted top made from naturally hypoallergenic fabric, which means the fillings stay in place and sensitive sleepers get a gentler start. Silentnight describes this as a softer sleep surface, taking a little of the edge off the firm feel beneath.
- Comfort Breathe™ fibres. A second layer of breathable fibres for increased airflow and improved temperature regulation, which means heat is less likely to build up around you overnight. Silentnight says it also adds firmer pressure relief.
- 1400 Mirapocket springs. The springs sit in individual pockets and respond independently to your body's movements, which means zoned support and better spinal alignment rather than a uniform surface. The 1400 count is for the king size, with counts adjusted pro rata for other sizes.
- Durable case. A soft, hard-wearing outer case built to keep the mattress comfortable over the years. The underside is a polypropylene and polyester blend, with a polyester-led side border.

- Independent springs matter more when sharing: The Mirapocket springs move individually, which means a partner turning over on their 67.5cm of the bed is far less likely to wake you.
- A footprint that leaves the room usable: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which most UK doubles bedrooms clear with space left for bedside tables on both sides.
- Breathable fibres for two bodies' heat: Two sleepers generate more warmth than one, and the Comfort Breathe fibre layer is designed to move that heat away rather than trap it.
- Firm support across the shared surface: The firm feel keeps back and front sleepers aligned, so neither of you rolls towards the middle as the night goes on.
- Easy to dress, easy to price: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet are stocked everywhere, handy if you're furnishing a whole home and the budget is already stretched.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want firm, independent support in a size that fits a typical UK bedroom, you're setting up a first flat or new home where the bed has to coexist with a wardrobe and drawers, or you sleep alone and want space to spread out without giving the room over to the mattress.
Consider another size if...
Your room comfortably exceeds 2.7m x 2.9m and you both want more space, or one of you is a restless sleeper. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, and we'd recommend it instead.

Is the Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1400 in a UK double big enough for a couple?
Yes, for most couples. You each get 67.5cm of width, and the pocket springs respond independently, so movement on one side is less likely to carry across. Broader-shouldered pairs, or anyone used to a UK king, may find it a little cosy. If your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m, consider sizing up.
Will a UK double Comfort Breathe 1400 fit in a small bedroom?
Usually, yes. We suggest a minimum room of 2.6m x 2.8m for a UK double, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves space to walk round the bed and, in most rooms, to keep bedside tables on both sides, which is where the UK king starts to feel like a squeeze.
Can you get a UK double mattress up a narrow staircase?
At 135 x 190cm this is a full-size sprung mattress, not a rolled one, so it needs manoeuvring in one piece. Measure any turns on the stairs and the landing before ordering, particularly in older terraces or tight new builds. A UK double is generally the most stair-friendly of the shared sizes.
Does the double have fewer springs than the king size?
Slightly, yes. The 1400 spring count applies to the king size, and Silentnight adjusts the count pro rata for other sizes, so the UK double carries proportionally fewer springs across its narrower surface. The spring density, and therefore the firm, independent support you feel, stays the same.
Is a double Comfort Breathe 1400 a good choice for a guest room?
It's a sensible one. A UK double accommodates visiting couples, and the firm feel suits a bed that hosts different sleepers rather than one person's fixed preference. The hypoallergenic, hand tufted surface is a quiet bonus for guests with sensitivities. Just check the room meets our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum.
