Layer Details
- Spring layer. Hand-nested calico pocket springs, 1476 of them in the 150 x 200cm size, each sewn into its own calico pocket. This means the springs move independently, so you feel support where you need it and less disturbance from a partner shifting about.
- Upholstery. Exclusively natural fillings: a British fleece wool spring protector pad, bonded British fleece wool and cotton, horsehair, and blended British fleece wool and cotton. Wool and horsehair breathe and wick moisture, which means a cooler, drier sleep than most foam-heavy mattresses can manage.
- Ticking and finishing. Finest quality ticking, hand tufted with felt washers. Tufting holds the fillings firmly in place, so the mattress keeps its shape rather than shifting and lumping over the years.
- Borders. Borders upholstered with protective wool, finished with two rows of hand side-stitching, horizontal handles and air vents. The side-stitching links the border to the springs, giving you firm edge support, while the vents let air move through the natural fillings.

- Fits a typical UK bedroom: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, so the UK double suits many master bedrooms where a UK king would crowd the floor.
- Firm edges help a shared bed: The two rows of hand side-stitching keep the borders supportive, which means you can lie close to the edge and make fuller use of the 67.5cm each.
- Less partner disturbance in a closer space: Each spring sits in its own calico pocket and moves on its own, which helps when two people share a slightly narrower bed and roll over at different times.
- Cooler sharing: Wool and horsehair fillings breathe and wick moisture, useful in a UK double where two bodies generate heat close together.
- Made for a bedstead frame: At 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, it matches the standard UK double bedstead, so you can often keep a frame you already love.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed with a partner and your bedroom sits close to our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum, or you're furnishing a spare room for visiting couples and want quality that lasts for decades without the bed filling the room.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both sleep spread out, or one of you is tall. We'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 10cm longer and gives 75cm each; allow at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is the Vispring Bedstead Supreme Firm UK double wide enough for two people?
The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing. That suits most couples who sleep reasonably still, and the hand side-stitched edges mean the outer few centimetres stay usable. If either of you sprawls, the UK king gives 7.5cm more each.
Will a UK double Vispring Bedstead Supreme fit in my bedroom with bedside tables?
We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m for a UK double, with around 3m x 3m being the comfortable norm. At the lower figure you'll have space to walk round the bed, though slim bedside tables will suit it better than bulky ones.
How much smaller is the Vispring Bedstead Supreme UK double than the UK king?
The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king. For two sharing, that works out at 7.5cm less each. In exchange, the UK double needs a smaller room: we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, against 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king.
What size bedstead do I need for a Vispring UK double mattress?
You need a standard UK double bedstead, sized for a 135 x 190cm mattress, which is 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in. Check the internal measurements of your frame before ordering, as some older or antique bedsteads were made to slightly different sizes.
Is the Vispring Bedstead Supreme UK double long enough if I'm tall?
The UK double is 190cm long, or 6ft 3in. That suits most adults, but if your feet already reach the end of your current bed, the UK king is 10cm longer and would give you more room at the foot.
