Layer Details
- Spring layer. Hand-nested calico pocket springs, 1476 of them in the 150 x 200cm size, each sewn into its own calico pocket. This means the springs move independently, so you feel support where you need it and less disturbance from a partner shifting about.
- Upholstery. Exclusively natural fillings: a British fleece wool spring protector pad, bonded British fleece wool and cotton, horsehair, and blended British fleece wool and cotton. Wool and horsehair breathe and wick moisture, which means a cooler, drier sleep than most foam-heavy mattresses can manage.
- Ticking and finishing. Finest quality ticking, hand tufted with felt washers. Tufting holds the fillings firmly in place, so the mattress keeps its shape rather than shifting and lumping over the years.
- Borders. Borders upholstered with protective wool, finished with two rows of hand side-stitching, horizontal handles and air vents. The side-stitching links the border to the springs, giving you firm edge support, while the vents let air move through the natural fillings.

- Fits a compact room: At 3ft x 6ft 3in, the UK single leaves space for a desk or wardrobe, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space.
- Firm support for one: The Firm tension gives a supportive, springy surface, which means heavier solo sleepers and committed back sleepers keep their spine level rather than sinking.
- Cooler for warm sleepers: Wool, cotton and horsehair fillings breathe and wick moisture, so a teenager or adult who runs hot in a small, closed bedroom should stay drier through the night.
- Usable right to the edge: Two rows of hand side-stitching firm up the border, which matters on a narrow UK single where you often sleep close to the side.
- Suits a loft conversion: The narrow footprint tucks under a sloping ceiling where a wider bed would not fit, and the horizontal handles make turning it in a tight space a little easier.
- A choice of tensions: Vispring also lists Soft, Medium and Extra Firm tensions, so if Firm feels wrong for a lighter sleeper there are other options in the same model.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want a firm, naturally filled mattress in a room where every bit of floor counts, you're furnishing a teenager's bedroom or a loft conversion with a sloping ceiling, or you need a guest bed that leaves your spare room usable as an office.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed with a partner, or want more room to spread out. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives 67.5cm each for two sharing; we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

Will the Vispring Bedstead Supreme UK single fit a cabin bed or mid sleeper?
It may, but check first. This mattress is 27cm deep, which is deeper than many raised frames are designed for. Look up the frame maker's maximum mattress depth, and make sure the guard rail still sits well above the sleeping surface once the mattress is on. If the frame can't take 27cm, choose a slimmer mattress for that bed.
Is a UK single Vispring long enough for an adult?
The UK single measures 90 x 190cm, or 3ft x 6ft 3in, which suits most adults sleeping alone. If you're tall and your feet reach the end, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK single, though it is a much wider bed and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m of room for it.
How much room do I need for a Vispring UK single?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space for a UK single. That leaves room to get in and out comfortably and open a wardrobe or pull out a desk chair, which matters in a child's bedroom or a spare room that also works as a study.
Is the Vispring Bedstead Supreme Firm too firm for a child's single bed?
It can be for a light child. Firm tension suits heavier sleepers and back sleepers best, and a small child may not press into the springs enough to feel much give. For a younger child in a UK single, Vispring's Soft or Medium tension would likely be a gentler choice, while an older, heavier teenager may be fine on Firm.
Where can I compare prices for the Vispring Bedstead Supreme Firm in a UK single?
Compare the retailers listed on this page. The prices shown here are updated as retailers change them, so what you see is current for the UK single rather than another size. Make sure the listing you choose names both the UK single size and the Firm tension, as Vispring sells several tensions of this model.
