- Upholstery. Bonded and blended British fleece wool with cotton, encased in high-quality ticking, which means a breathable, temperature-regulating sleep surface with no synthetic foam. It is hand-tufted with felt washers, so the fillings stay anchored rather than migrating and lumping over time.
- Springs. A single layer of 1,558 hand-nested vanadium steel pocket springs in calico pockets, based on the king size. Each spring moves independently, which means the mattress contours to your shape and limits motion transfer between partners.

- A small footprint for tight rooms: At 3ft x 6ft 3in, the UK single leaves space for a wardrobe, desk or chest of drawers in a room where a double would crowd everything else out.
- Cooler for one hot sleeper: Wool and cotton let heat escape, which means a teenager or single adult who runs warm is less likely to wake up clammy in a small, stuffy room.
- A fair pair for a guest room: Two UK singles side by side let guests who are friends or siblings sleep apart, and each mattress moves independently so neither feels the other turning.
- Fits a loft conversion layout: The narrow 90cm width lets you tuck the bed along the low side of a sloping ceiling, although the domed top adds a little height to allow for.
- Gentle feel for a growing body: The gently cushioned medium tension offers a soft surface over supportive springs, which suits most lighter sleepers, although a teenager who prefers a firm bed may find it slightly yielding.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone in a smaller bedroom and want natural fillings over foam, or you're furnishing a guest room with two separate beds, or you're buying for an older teenager who will use this mattress for years and runs a little hot at night.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who sprawls, or a partner sometimes stays over. We'd recommend the UK small double instead, which is 30cm wider at the same length; we suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m for it.

Can I put a Vispring Dartington UK single on a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
Possibly, but check first. The Dartington is 21cm deep with around 6cm of doming on top, which is taller than many bunk and cabin bed makers allow. Look up the frame's maximum mattress depth and make sure the guard rail still sits well above the sleeping surface. If it doesn't, a slimmer mattress would be safer for that frame.
What size bedroom do I need for a Vispring Dartington single?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space for a UK single. That leaves room to walk round the bed and open a wardrobe. In a shared children's room with two singles and a walkway between them, you'll need more, so measure the whole layout rather than the bed alone.
Is a Vispring Dartington UK single a sensible buy for a child?
It depends on the child's age. For a young child who may move to a bigger bed within a few years, this is a lot to spend on a mattress they will outgrow. For an older teenager settling into a single for the long term, the natural fillings and hand-tufted build suit years of use better.
Will a Vispring Dartington single fit under a sloping ceiling in a loft conversion?
The 90cm width makes a UK single one of the easiest beds to place along a low wall. Measure your headroom from the top of the bed frame, then allow for the mattress being 21cm deep plus around 6cm of doming, so the sleeper can sit up without catching their head.
Should one adult choose the Dartington in a UK single or a UK small double?
If you sleep still and your room is small, the UK single works well. If you like to stretch out, the UK small double is 30cm wider at the same length, and we suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space for it. Neither size adds length, so taller adults may want the UK king instead.
