- Top upholstery. Layered British fleece wool and cotton with bamboo, which gives exceptional softness directly beneath you. These natural fibres are highly breathable, so the surface stays temperate rather than trapping heat.
- Support layer. Horsehair, a traditional filling prized for durability and resilience. It acts as a natural spring beneath the softer top layers, helping the mattress keep its shape over time.
- Spring layer. Hand-nested calico pocket springs made from vanadium steel, with 1,720 springs in the 150 x 200cm size. It's a single layer of springs that move independently, which means support adapts to your body and you feel less of your partner's movement.
- Base upholstery. Bonded British fleece wool and cotton with a built-in wool pad. This safeguards the mattress against wear from beneath, protecting the fillings where they meet the bedstead.

- Room for the rest of your furniture: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, so in many UK bedrooms you keep space for drawers, a wardrobe and a clear path round the bed.
- Bedside tables on both sides: At 135cm wide, the UK double often leaves enough floor for a table either side, where a UK king might squeeze one out.
- Independent springs for a shared bed: The hand-nested pocket springs move independently, which means your partner turning over travels less across the narrower surface you share.
- Built for a bedstead: The Imperial is designed to sit on a bedstead, and its base upholstery includes a wool pad that protects the fillings where they meet the frame.
- A fitting choice for visiting couples: In a guest room, the UK double gives two visitors 67.5cm each without the bed taking over a room that also has other uses.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed with a partner and your bedroom is around our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m, or you want bedside tables on both sides without the bed crowding out a wardrobe. It also suits a well furnished guest room for visiting couples.
Consider another size if...
You both want more personal space than 67.5cm each, or one of you is tall and wants extra length. We'd recommend the UK king instead, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

Is the Vispring Imperial UK double wide enough for two people?
The UK double gives you 67.5cm each. That's comfortable for many couples, particularly if you sleep fairly still. Because the pocket springs move independently, you feel less of each other's movement, which helps on a shared bed of this width. If either of you sprawls, you may find it a little snug.
How much more room does the Vispring Imperial UK king give than the UK double?
The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double. Shared between two, the UK king gives 75cm each, so the UK double gives 7.5cm less each. The trade-off is floor space: we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king, against 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
What size bedroom do I need for a Vispring Imperial double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double. That usually leaves enough room to walk round the bed and fit bedside tables, although a bulky wardrobe or chest of drawers will eat into that margin. Measure your room and sketch where the furniture goes before you commit.
Will a Vispring Imperial UK double fit my existing bedstead?
The mattress measures 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, and is made for bedsteads. Measure the inside of your frame rather than the outside, as the mattress must sit within it. If your bedstead was made to a different standard, check the brand's own guidance before buying.
Is a Vispring Imperial double a sensible choice for a guest room?
It can be, if you host couples often and want them properly comfortable. The UK double gives two guests 67.5cm each and still leaves space in a room that may double as a study. For guests who visit rarely, a smaller size in a cheaper mattress may make more sense.
