- Ticking. The outer cover is a soft to the touch, finest quality ticking. This is the surface you'll actually feel through your sheet, and it's made to be gentle against skin.
- Fillings. All-natural fillings of British fleece wool, horsehair, bamboo and cotton, which means the mattress breathes and manages moisture naturally through the night. Horsehair in particular adds resilience, so the comfort layers spring back rather than compacting quickly.
- Springs. 1720 vanadium steel springs in the 5-foot size, each with 6 coils, hand-nested in calico pockets with a wool protector pad. Because each spring works independently, support follows your shape closely and movement on one side is less likely to disturb the other.
- Borders. Wool-upholstered borders include air vents and handles. The vents let air circulate through the mattress, and the handles make rotating it far easier than wrestling an unhandled one.

- Space for the rest of the room: At 3ft wide, the UK single leaves floor free for a desk, toy storage or a wardrobe, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m.
- Cooler for warm young sleepers: The wool, horsehair, bamboo and cotton fillings breathe and wick moisture, which means a child or teen who runs hot is less likely to wake up clammy.
- Support that suits a growing body: Each spring moves on its own in its calico pocket, so support follows the sleeper's shape as a child grows into a taller, heavier teenager.
- A tension to match the sleeper: With soft, medium and firm versions available, you can pick a tension for a lighter child now or a heavier adult guest later.
- Fits a small spare room: A UK single leaves a study or home office usable during the week, and still gives a visiting guest a proper sprung mattress to sleep on.
- Built for the long term: Horsehair helps the comfort layers recover rather than flatten, so a single bought for a teenager can move on to a spare room years later.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want natural materials rather than foam, you're furnishing a child's or teenager's room where a desk and storage need space too, or you have a small spare room that doubles as an office during the week.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed with a partner, as a 90cm width only fits one. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives 67.5cm each; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

Will a Vispring Imperial single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The UK single matches the 90 x 190cm footprint most bunk and mid sleeper frames take. Depth is the part to check: raised frames set a maximum mattress depth so the guardrail stays high enough. Compare Vispring's stated depth for the Imperial against your frame maker's limit before you order.
How many springs are in a Vispring Imperial UK single?
Vispring quotes 1720 springs, each with 6 coils, for the 5-foot size. It doesn't publish a separate figure for the UK single, which is a much narrower mattress, so check the brand's own guidance if the exact count matters to you.
Is a Vispring Imperial UK single a sensible choice for a child?
It's a serious spend for a child's bed, so it makes most sense if you want one mattress to last into the teenage years and beyond. The natural fillings suit children who sleep warm. A softer tension may feel better for a lighter child, although a firm version will suit them longer as they grow.
How much floor space does a Vispring Imperial single need?
The mattress measures 90 x 190cm, or 3ft x 6ft 3in. We suggest a room of at least 2.1m x 2.8m, which leaves enough clearance to get round the bed and open a wardrobe or desk drawer beside it.
Can two people share a single Vispring Imperial?
Not comfortably. The UK single is designed for one sleeper. If two of you share, the UK double is 45cm wider and gives 67.5cm each. We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
