- Ticking. The outer cover is made from soft to the touch, finest quality ticking. It's the surface you'll feel through your sheets, so the quality matters more than you might think.
- Hand tufting and side-stitching. Hand tufting with felt washers holds the fillings in place, which means they won't shift or bunch over time. Three rows of hand side-stitching firm up the edges, so you get support right across the sleeping surface.
- Springs and pockets. The 5 foot size contains 1720 vanadium steel springs, each with 6 coils, hand-nested in calico pockets beneath a wool protector pad. Individual pockets mean each spring moves independently, so you feel less disturbance from a partner turning over.
- Fillings. The fillings are all natural: British fleece wool, horsehair, bamboo and cotton. Wool and horsehair are excellent at wicking moisture and regulating temperature, which means a cooler, drier sleep than synthetic foams tend to give.
- Borders. The borders are upholstered in wool and include air vents and handles. Vents let the mattress breathe, and the handles make rotating it far less of a struggle.

- Room for two: At 75cm each, you get 7.5cm more personal space than on a UK double, which means you can turn over without landing in your partner's half.
- Extra length for tall sleepers: The 200cm length (6ft 6in) is 10cm longer than a UK double, so a partner over six foot can stretch out without their feet hanging off the end.
- Less disturbance from early starts: The 5 foot size has 1720 springs, each in its own calico pocket, so a partner getting up before dawn sends far less movement across to your side.
- Edges you can use: Three rows of hand side-stitching keep the border supportive, which means the whole 150cm width is usable sleeping space rather than just the middle.
- Fits a typical main bedroom: We suggest a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m, a slightly smaller footprint than the UK super king needs, while still giving each of you proper space.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a UK double has started to feel tight, one of you is over six foot and keeps running out of length, or you work different hours and want less movement from the other side of the bed when your partner gets up.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is under 2.7m x 2.9m, or you both sprawl and 75cm each still feels tight. We'd recommend the UK double for smaller rooms (allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m), or the UK super king for more space each.

Is the Vispring Imperial UK king long enough for someone over 6ft?
The UK king is 200cm long, which is 6ft 6in, and 10cm longer than the UK double. For a partner over six foot, that extra length often matters more than the extra width, because it leaves room for a pillow at the top and your feet at the bottom.
Vispring Imperial king or double: how much more space do we each get?
The UK king gives you 75cm each, against 67.5cm each on the UK double, so 7.5cm more per person. It's also 15cm wider and 10cm longer in total. If you've been waking up pressed together on a UK double, that difference is noticeable from the first night.
Will I feel my partner getting up on a Vispring Imperial king size?
Less than on a mattress with linked springs. The 5 foot size uses 1720 springs, each sewn into its own calico pocket, so they move independently. Add 75cm of width each and there's more mattress between you, which helps if one of you leaves hours before the other.
What size bedroom do I need for a Vispring Imperial UK king?
We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for a UK king. New build main bedrooms can feel smaller than their measurements once wardrobes and bedside tables go in, so measure the floor space you'll actually have free. If your room falls short, the UK double needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
Should we get the Vispring Imperial in a super king instead of a king?
Only if you have the room and want more width. The UK super king gives 90cm each, 15cm more per person, but is 30cm wider and needs at least 3m x 2.9m. Both are 200cm long, so a tall partner gains nothing extra in length by sizing up.
