- Ticking. The outer cover is made from soft to the touch, finest quality ticking. It's the surface you'll feel through your sheets, so the quality matters more than you might think.
- Hand tufting and side-stitching. Hand tufting with felt washers holds the fillings in place, which means they won't shift or bunch over time. Three rows of hand side-stitching firm up the edges, so you get support right across the sleeping surface.
- Springs and pockets. The 5 foot size contains 1720 vanadium steel springs, each with 6 coils, hand-nested in calico pockets beneath a wool protector pad. Individual pockets mean each spring moves independently, so you feel less disturbance from a partner turning over.
- Fillings. The fillings are all natural: British fleece wool, horsehair, bamboo and cotton. Wool and horsehair are excellent at wicking moisture and regulating temperature, which means a cooler, drier sleep than synthetic foams tend to give.
- Borders. The borders are upholstered in wool and include air vents and handles. Vents let the mattress breathe, and the handles make rotating it far less of a struggle.
