Layer Details
- Comfort fillings. Two layers combining polyester and cotton sit at the sleep surface, which means a soft, cushioned first impression when you lie down. The cotton adds a touch of natural breathability to the synthetic fill.
- Soft white fibres. Beneath the comfort layers, two layers of soft white fibres help air circulate through the mattress. This works to move heat and moisture away from you, so the bed feels fresher for longer.
- Pocket springs. 1000 pocket springs form the core of the mattress, each moving independently to follow the shape of your body. Their curved design is intended to react quickly and spring back, so the mattress shouldn't feel dead or unresponsive when you change position.

- More room each: You get 75cm each, which is 7.5cm more per person than the UK double, so there is less chance of elbows and knees meeting in the night.
- Length for taller partners: At 200cm long, the UK king adds 10cm over a UK double, which means someone over six foot is less likely to find their feet at the very edge.
- Fewer early morning disturbances: The 1000 pocket springs move individually, so when one of you gets up before dawn, the other should feel only a slight shift across the bed.
- Space for extra pillows: If you're pregnant or recovering and propping yourself up with cushions, the UK king's extra width leaves your partner with usable space rather than a thin strip.
- Fits rooms a super king won't: We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king, compared with 3m x 2.9m for the UK super king.
This size suits you if...
You share every night and a UK double has you both clinging to the edges, one of you is over six foot and keeps running out of mattress, or your working hours differ so much that one of you is up and out long before the other stirs.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is smaller than our suggested 2.7m x 2.9m. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Wentworth Mercer Natural Pocket 1000 UK king long enough if you're over 6ft?
The UK king is 200cm long, or 6ft 6in, which is 10cm longer than the UK double. If one of you is over six foot, that extra length is often the bigger improvement, even more than the width. Very tall sleepers who like to stretch out should measure themselves against the 200cm length before buying.
Will I feel my partner moving on a UK king Natural Pocket 1000?
Probably a little, but less than on a narrower bed. You each have 75cm, and the 1000 pocket springs move independently rather than as one unit. That combination helps if one of you gets up early or turns over often, although a sprung mattress will never be completely still.
How much more space do we get going from a UK double to a UK king?
The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double. When you share, that works out as 7.5cm more each. It sounds modest on paper, yet it's the difference many couples notice as soon as they stop reaching the edge when they roll over.
Should we choose the Wentworth Mercer Natural Pocket 1000 in UK king or UK super king?
The UK super king gives 90cm each, so the UK king gives you 15cm less each. Both are the same length. The UK super king needs a room of at least 3m x 2.9m, compared with our suggested 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king, so your room size will often decide this.
Will a UK king mattress fit a new build master bedroom?
Often, but measure after the wardrobes and drawers are in, because fitted furniture takes up more floor than the plans suggest. We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for a UK king, and 3.2m x 3.2m if you want comfortable space to walk round both sides.
