- The standard couples' size: At 135 x 190cm you get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, the width British couples have shared for generations.
- Pocket springs help when sharing: The springs move independently, which means you feel less of a partner shifting in the night, a benefit that matters most in a shared size like this.
- Fits most UK bedrooms: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which leaves space to walk round the bed and open drawers in a typical double bedroom.
- Room for bedside tables: In an averagely sized room, a UK double usually leaves space for a bedside table on each side, something a UK king often takes away.
- Cooling built in for two: Two bodies raise the temperature under one duvet, so the cooling foams that draw heat away are arguably more useful here than in a solo size.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the traditional couples' size, or you sleep alone and like room to stretch out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also makes sense for a guest room that hosts visiting couples, where a UK double is the expected size and double bedding is easy to buy anywhere.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space and your room measures at least 2.7m x 2.9m. In that case we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double.

Is the Arthur Sleep Cool Comfort UK double big enough for a couple?
Yes, for most couples. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the pocket springs reduce how much you feel a partner moving. If either of you is broad shouldered or a restless sleeper, the UK king is 15cm wider and worth considering, provided your room can take it.
What are the dimensions of the Arthur Sleep Cool Comfort UK double?
It measures 135 x 190cm, which is 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in. That is the standard UK double footprint, so it will fit any UK double bed frame and take standard double sheets. Arthur Sleep doesn't publish a depth for this mattress, so check with the brand if fitted sheet depth matters to you.
What size room do I need for the Cool Comfort in a UK double?
We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m. That allows you to walk around both sides of the bed and open wardrobe doors without shuffling sideways. In a room that size, a UK double usually leaves space for bedside tables on both sides, which a larger mattress often wouldn't.
Should I buy this mattress in a UK double or a UK king?
Go with the UK double if your bedroom is a typical size or you want the room to feel less full of bed. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, useful for taller sleepers and couples who want more space, but we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m of room for it.
Is the UK double a good size for a guest room?
Yes. It comfortably sleeps visiting couples, and because the UK double is Britain's most common size, spare double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet are cheap and easy to find. One caveat with this particular mattress: Arthur Sleep doesn't state a firmness level, so you can't be sure how it will suit fussier guests.
