Layer Details
- Top layer. A premium comfort layer sits on top, although the listing doesn't specify exactly what it's made from. It provides the initial cushioning you'll feel when you lie down.
- Core. A 1000 pocket spring system forms the core, which means each spring responds to your body individually rather than as one unit. You get support where you press down and less motion transfer across the bed.
- Border. A 10cm foam encapsulated border wraps the springs, giving edge-to-edge support and a reinforced sleep surface. In practice, the mattress feels usable across its full width, including when sitting on the side.
Layer details from mattressman.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Edge support matters more in a narrow bed: The 10cm foam encapsulated border keeps the surface supportive to the sides, which counts when the whole mattress is only 90cm wide.
- A sensible feel for growing sleepers: The medium firm rating suits back and combination sleepers, and gives children and teens support rather than a soft surface they sink into.
- Leaves room to live around it: At 3ft wide, this size fits a child's room alongside a desk, wardrobe and toy storage without swallowing the floor.
- Guest ready without fuss: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm duvet fit, so a spare room or study that doubles as guest space is easy to kit out.
- Proper springs at the smallest size: You get the full 1000 pocket spring system, which means each spring responds to the sleeper individually rather than the whole bed moving as one.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager and want a supportive, medium firm bed rather than something soft and short-lived, you need a mattress for a spare room or study that occasionally hosts guests, or you sleep alone in a compact room, a student let or a first flat where the frame came with the room and 90cm of width is all the space allows.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who likes to stretch out, or you share the bed. For a solo sleeper wanting more width, we'd recommend the UK small double, 30cm wider and the same length; allow at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space.

How big is the Arthur Sleep Hotel Arthur in a UK single?
The UK single measures 90 x 190cm, which is 3ft x 6ft 3in. It shares its 190cm length with the UK small double and UK double, so only the width changes if you size up within those three. We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space around it.
Is the Hotel Arthur UK single a good mattress for a child or teenager?
It's a reasonable fit. The medium firm feel gives growing bodies support rather than letting them sink in, and the 1000 pocket springs respond to lighter bodies individually. One caveat: the comfort layer's material isn't specified in the retailer listing, so ask the retailer if that detail matters to you.
Will the Hotel Arthur single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk and mid sleeper frames. The thing to check is depth: raised frames usually set a maximum mattress height so the guard rail still does its job, and the listing we've seen doesn't publish a depth for this mattress, so confirm with the retailer before ordering.
Is a UK single wide enough for an adult?
For one adult who sleeps fairly still, yes, 90cm is the standard solo width and this mattress supports it right to the edges thanks to the foam encapsulated border. If you spread out or turn a lot, the UK small double is 30cm wider and the same length, which is a noticeable difference for a restless sleeper.
Where can I buy the Hotel Arthur mattress in a single?
Availability shifts, so the simplest route is the live comparison table on this page, where prices are updated as retailers change them. It's a quieter corner of the market than the big brands, so if the UK single shows limited stock it can be worth checking back rather than assuming it's gone.
