- Fits the rooms most of us actually have: At 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, this size leaves space for wardrobes and drawers where a UK king would dominate; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
- Independent support for two: Each of the 1,000 pocket springs moves on its own, which means a restless partner disturbs you less across a shared 135cm width.
- A soft feel that suits sharing side sleepers: The medium soft surface cushions shoulders and hips, so two side sleepers lying close together both get pressure relief rather than a hard, flat platform.
- Bedding is easy and cheap to find: Double sheets and 200 x 200cm duvets are stocked everywhere at every price, useful if you're furnishing a whole home and the budget is already stretched.
- Room for bedside tables on both sides: In a typical UK master bedroom, the UK double usually leaves enough wall either side for a table and lamp each, which the UK king often doesn't.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room sits comfortably around our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum, you both prefer sinking into a softer surface rather than lying on top of a firm one, or you're setting up a guest room and want visiting couples to have a familiar, comfortable size without giving the room over to the bed entirely.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner want more personal space than the 67.5cm each this size allows, and your room can take it. We'd recommend the UK king instead: it's 15cm wider and 10cm longer, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

How much space does each person get on the Cotton Pocket 1000 UK double?
Two people sharing a UK double get 67.5cm each. That's the long standing standard for British couples, though it is snugger than many expect. The pocket springs help here: each of the 1,000 springs moves independently, so you feel less of your partner's movement even at close quarters. If you both spread out, consider the UK king.
Will the UK double Cotton Pocket 1000 fit my bedroom?
The mattress measures 135 x 190cm, and we suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m so you can open drawers and walk around the bed without shuffling sideways. That allowance is our guidance, not the manufacturer's. In most UK master bedrooms it also leaves room for bedside tables on both sides.
Is it worth sizing up from the UK double to the UK king with this mattress?
Only if your room allows it. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it. If your bedroom is tighter than that, the UK double is the better call: you keep the same medium soft feel and pocket spring support without crowding the room.
Is the Cotton Pocket 1000 in a UK double a good guest room choice?
Yes, with one caveat. The UK double is the size visiting couples expect, and the medium soft feel is welcoming for short stays. Bedding is easy: standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet. If your guests tend to be heavier or firmly prefer a hard surface, this mattress may feel a little too yielding for them.
Where can I compare prices for the Cotton Pocket 1000 UK double?
Right here. The prices shown on this page are updated as retailers change them, so comparing the retailers listed is the quickest way to see what the UK double currently costs. Pricing varies by size, so a figure you've seen quoted for the UK single or UK king won't match this one.
